Don't let the A-list cast and wide release fool you, this is an exploitation film through and through, providing an entertaining, no-holds-barred pulp kick.

In telling the story of a respected businessman who moonlights as a so-clever-as-to-be-uncatchable serial murderer, the film boasts wild, unpredictable turns into the macabre and brutal... the nightmare of a person who watches too much Court TV.

But you can't help but find yourself caught up in the twists and turns of the plot. Nor can you deny the quality of the acting, especially William Hurt's turn as a spectral, devious alter ego who urges the schizophrenic protagonist to murder and cause mayhem. And Dane Cook's (revelatory) maiden voyage as a dramatic actor, bringing surprising dramatic weight and depth to the role of an angle-playing voyeur hoping to become a legendary murderer.

Overall, it isn't the next The Silence of the Lambs and won't be nominated for a single Academy Award, but it is an entertaining and oft-disturbing roller coaster ride movie fans will enjoy this summer.

As much as I LOVE Dane Cook, his acting was a little (well, a lot) blah. :frown: The screenplay written for Kevin Costner's character was right on. :yay: And his dialogue with William Hurt (the apparent "voice in his head") gave a pretty interesting view of how one with schizophrenia (or what have you) may be "coaxed" into murder after murder.

I dug it.

I haven't seen this yet but I am SO IN LOVE with Dane! I'll be at the Verizon Center next Friday to see him...again. Anyone else?

Another recent purchase, and not disappointed at all. It seemed as if KC was having a hard time getting wrapped around this particular character, but it didn't take anything away from it. As Kyle pointed out...is it wrong to cheer for the bad guy?
