Chief U.S. District Judge James K. Bredar yesterday sentenced Jose Joya Parada, a/k/a “Calmado,” age 20, to 50 years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for a racketeering conspiracy, racketeering, and related violent crimes in aid of racketeering, connected to his participation in La Mara Salvatrucha, a transnational criminal enterprise also known as MS-13. On January 24, 2022, a federal jury convicted Joya Parada, along with Milton Portillo-Rodriguez, a/k/a “Little Gangster,” age 26; Juan Carlos Sandoval-Rodriguez, a/k/a “Picaro,” age 22; and Oscar Armando Sorto Romero, a/k/a “Lobo,” age 22; on those charges after a three-month trial. Portillo-Rodriguez, Sandoval-Rodriguez, and Sorto Romero were each also convicted of multiple counts of murder in aid of racketeering.
