Anyone know how to transfer a WBS from MS Project to Excel and keep the same formatting?

Look at your Excel features - you should be able to import the WBS w/out too much problem. You may have to realign the heirarchy just a bit, but only aesthetically, if I remember correctly.

You can always use the "H-E-L-P" button too...

good luck,

Exchange information between Microsoft Project and Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Access

There are several ways to exchange information between Microsoft Project and Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Access. You can:
 •
Copy and paste one or more fields or cells.

Link or embed fields, cells, records or rows, Microsoft Excel charts, or entire files.

Import Microsoft Excel or Access data into Microsoft Project.

Export Microsoft Project data to Microsoft Access or Excel.
 • Save your entire project to a database format.
When you want to exchange more than a few fields of information between these programs, use importing and exporting.

Microsoft Project can save data in Microsoft Excel Workbook or PivotTable and Microsoft Access 2000 database formats, among others. When you want to send data to Microsoft Excel or Access, you use the Save As command on the File menu, and choose a format. You can send precisely the data you want by selecting the Microsoft Project fields to export.

Likewise, you can open a Microsoft Excel or Access file directly from Microsoft Project by using the Open command on the File menu and selecting just the information you want to incorporate into your plan.

For more information about the file formats supported by Microsoft Project, click .

What do you want to do?

Copy text and numerical information from another program

Link or embed Microsoft Excel data into Microsoft Project

Export project data to a Microsoft Access database

Import project data from a Microsoft Access database

Export project data to a Microsoft Excel workbook or PivotTable

Import project data from a Microsoft Excel workbook

Not sure what your goal is by transfering to Excel... Be aware that if you have built an inclusive WBS, as it is intended, you may have reference errors, embedded nightmares and so on when transfering. You may only be able to capture a stagnate picture, not a fluid, constantly up to date reflection of what is taking place in your WBS. Project does that for you. Whatever it is that you are trying to do in Excel may be a function easily done in Project - or - imported into your milestone agenda/expenditure analysis, your manhour overview or your cost/schedule/perfomance overview...

So, there you go...
