No suprise, many many MVA's working on the Calvert scanner. Currently 46 users online, but we're up and running!

It just took us 40 minutes to get to our house in CRE. They had ALL the hills shut down, we tried 3 ways to get home. There are people stuck everywhere.

Once we had a clear route home, we were fine, my truck did not slide or lose traction one time.

CRE should be ashamed of these roads. We've been under this advisory for over 24 hrs, more than enough time to PREPARE for these conditions [which aren't even bad]. We live on the top of a huge hill and there is a truck there waiting to pull the idiots up it.

I picked my kids up from daycare around 1200 and didn't have any problems. Catalina had been sanded most of the way, but GWW was atrocious. There was a truck into a tree right by my house and I could see several places where vehicles had gone off the road. Just by taking it slow, I got in and out without any issues in my Tahoe.

AMEN! My husband called twice to let them know how dissapointed and angry he was with them. He was trying to just get home from work, not doing unnecessary driving. The roads aren't even clear to a point that people can safely get in and out....how about lets salt the roads just for the purpose of getting emergency vehicles in and out of the neighborhood!

We pay a decent amount of money for roads maintenance, still somehow the roads are only maintained within about 1 mile of the neighborhood entrances! Disgusting.

They must be using all the money to keep the facilities up to par. Lake Lariat doesn't stay as pure and clear as it is with its soft gorgeous fringe of sand and beautiful classy gazebos and pergolas by accident you know!

And the crack security task force isn't free.

I'm in Mechanicsville and the roads were a bit messy in spots on the way home around 12:30. It's done quite a bit more smowing since then! Here are a few pics. First is Rt 5 & Mattawoman Beantown Rd., second is coming through Forest Park, third is Hughesville Bypass, and the last is Golden Beach Road. I don't think I want to know what they look like now!

Who's going to be the first to yell at you for taking photos while driving in bad road conditions?

Oh, guess it's me! :smack:

Believe me, both hands were firmly on the wheel and my eyes were on the road. I just blindly clicked the button a few times and got lucky. Oh, and I was going about 5 mph or stopped each time!

You know, there are whiners are here complaining they closed schools for nothing, and you're whining about the roads not being clear enough for you.

The emergency vehicles can get through this stuff just fine - they actually plan ahead so they are prepared for minor storms like this.

Many states wouldn't even send out the crews for such a small amount of snow. They can't even push the snow until there's enough to actually push.

If they put out enough salt to keep the non-drivers from getting in trouble in a storm like this, they're going to need to build rail lines to bring in enough salt to make you happy once we get real storms.

Just a year ago most people would have said "heh, not even 2". That's not even really a storm!" But now people are freaking.

I totally agree that this was extremely MILD. Like I stated before, WE got around perfectly fine, but I still believe they should have done something to help treat these few HUGE hills we have in here. The Solomons ambulance we were behind also had to turn around at two of the hills and try another route.

Being turned around 3 different times - not being able to get to your home in such a MINOR snow event, is pathetic.

My husband's issue was basically who is CRE security to determine whether a road is passable or not? Our road was shut down at the bottom of the hill, but my husband had had enough at that point, drove around their "blockade" and we got up our hill perfectly fine.

People REALLY need to learn how to drive. It's that simple. Generally, you KNOW if you suck at driving in the snow, so do us all a favor and stay home. :yay:

1 - "Whiners?" Check my posting history buddy -I definately do not fit in that category.

2 - Do you live here?! I get it its not alot of snow, I get that its not the biggest storm we'll get this year, HOWEVER We live on a hill that you could easily slide down on a good weather day. There are at least 2 of these type of hills on the way to our street. These aren't new roads, and this isn't the first time its snowed here. Pre-treatment of roads that they KNOW are a problem doesn't seem to much to ask.

3 - Definitely not freaking out, it would be nice if my husband could get home without having to try 3 different routes because cars are PILED UP at the bottoms of these untreated hills.

Get off of your high horse.

Emergency vehicles were not getting through the hills near my house. Not possible when at least 10 cars were gathered all around blocking the road totally. Then I went the other way... more hills and the same thing. Even if your vehicle could get up the hills there was no room to get through.

I've seen you drive, so I'm not surprised you couldn't hack it.

Sounds like bad drivers, not bad roads. They'll get the hang of it around the end of February.

:smack:

I hacked it just fine! I made it out of CRE and was on the road all day... the one accident I almost got in wasn't my fault.. it was that HUGE F350 that the guy lost control of and was headed straight into me... he finally got it together just a few feet from slamming into me. People should slow down and know how to drive.

I thought the same thing. But at least belvak wasn't talking on the phone at the time. That's against the law!
