Those familiar with Dave Ramsey know how "Murphy" is used in his advice. I posted this true story from the past 5 days in one of the forum's there and thought to provide it here to remind all to always be prepared financially.
Post as follows:
Had a plan for a long weekend trip to check on the folks, primarily Dad who has been in a battle of late. Friday departure, also start of my new four week budget and hence, payday.
Lot of my payments are on auto so no problem. Pay is direct deposit. Well, well, well Mr. Murphy decided to come at me (and many others) via glitch in the direct deposit action by my employer. Long story short, the Friday pay did not make it to our accounts until Monday.
Fast forward to Hertz. I plopped down my debit card and went on my merry way. The next morning (Sat) I checked my bank account on line to see if the pay issue had been resolved and noticed a larger than expected difference between available and current. Well, well, well Mr. Murphy . . . you had the kid at Hertz double hit a key or something because there was a hit (deposit) on the rental I drove off in that was double what I expected (also double what Hertz planned).
Sunday morning I got a call from the homefront. The house and AC unit is 3 years old but guess what? Yep, AC is not working. Oh Murphy you are such a pain.
So, how does one combat all this?
Well, a linked savings account that is to cover small emergencies and my debit card travel charges was quickly accessed and money transferred to cover all until the pay could be deposited. And a call to the AC company and they are on their way.
The moral to this story. Murphy does not care what Baby Step you are on. You must always be prepared because . . . life happens.
Stay focused, be prepared and pound that debt.
P.S.: By the way it was to hot in the house so to the hotel we went. We chose to live like no one else yesterday so that we could live like no one else (and sleep in comfort) today!!!!
