ON MAY 17, 2006, outspoken Bush critic and erstwhile Iraq war opponent John Murtha (D-Pa.) shocked the world with a dramatic revelation.
At a news conference he'd convened to talk about "the situation in Iraq," the formerly pro-military lawmaker dropped a bomb on the Marine Corps when he revealed in his 24 minute presser that troops with Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment had mowed down innocent civilians in a previously unknown town in north western Iraq called Haditha.
In stark language he accused the Corps of a massive cover-up and made the case that the Marines ran amok in a war with no direction. More shockingly, and without any corroborating evidence, he called the Marines involved in the bloody ambush and ensuing firefight cold-blooded killers.
/snip/
One has to wonder whether the Vietnam veteran will be held to account for his earlier rhetoric. Certainly, at the very least, he owes the innocent Marines he accused of cold-blooded murder an apology.

What a clown! Some folks disgrace the uniform.....

Women and children are dead, killed by marines. Somehow you don't find that too upsetting...

Murtha shouldn't have outright accused them of these atrocities, he should have waited for the investigation to complete.

It looked like a spade to him, so he called it a spade. It's not like the military has never tried to cover anything up, like say the friendly fire death of a certain football player who gave up a very lucrative career to fight for his country...

AFP: US marine to face trial in April over Haditha killings
US marine to face trial in April over Haditha killings

Nov 16, 2007
CAMP PENDLETON, United States (AFP) — A US Marine Corps officer will face trial on April 28 over his role in the killing of 24 Iraqi civilians in Haditha two years ago, a military judge in California ruled on Friday.
Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Chessani, 43, who commanded the marine unit in the area at the time of the killings and is the highest-ranking officer involved in the matter, has not entered a plea.
He is accused of violating a lawful order and neglecting his duty by failing to report and accurately investigate the killing spree which occurred on November 19, 2005.
Prosecutors allege that marines went on a rampage in Haditha, west of Baghdad, shooting unarmed men, women and children in retaliation for a roadside bomb attack that tore a popular comrade in half.

This happened a while back ,and Murtha isnt smart enough to apologise. He is one of the most crooked Representatives in a House full of crooks. He has accepted bribes and told lies and yet the people of Pa. still elect him. Are they really any better than he ,when they accept Murtha's Pork bribes and send him back to Washington?

Murtha's Mistake

I'm sorry about the link, nhboy. I viewed your pm and replied before I came back to this post. (I'm not too good about posting articles just yet.)

The ROE are so messed up in Iraq it's a miracle anyone can maintain order. Murtha has been a poster boy for slandering the troops, right up there with a few others who spout off about how bad our troops behave (but they support the troops). Murtha should have waited until after the investigations and charges filed. He smeared innocent Marines and should apologize. Holding firm to your convictions is admirable, state your case in a reasonable and rational manner. And apologize when you're wrong. 'nuf said.
