STEELERS NATION!!
I bought a 2001 Mustang GT. I wanted to put exhaust on it. I've never owned a Ford so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on a good exhaust system. TIA!

Tell him the old guy at AutoZone advised you. He does some great exhaust work. :yay:

An 01 GT should already have dual exhaust, all you should have to do is change the mufflers and tips. Unless you want to put bigger pipes on the whole thing. But, changing the stock mufflers for some flowmasters, will make a big difference.

He put 4.11 gears in my 00' Mustang last year. A lil whine but they were still breaking in.

I've had Camaros and Firebirds in the past and put flowmasters on all of them. I was looking at the American Thunder cat back system, but what about an X or H pipe? And should I put shortie headers on it or stick with the stock manifolds?

H Pipe is the way to go but you wont pass emissions and will need a tuner or MIL eliminators to turn off your check engine light. An H Pipe with a Hi-flo catback is the way to go.

What is your main goal? Better sound, more HP, both? Do you want to keep the catalytic converters, or get rid of them? Do you care what it does to the gas mileage?

You almost have to pull the engine to get headers on and it's not worth the hassle for the 10-15hp it adds. I'd stick with the stock manifold. Get some underdrive pulley's, a tuner with a tune, and a K&N airfilter and you'll make up that power easily. I had a shortthrow shifter in mine also; loved it!

Yeah a friend of mine said something about an MIL elimiator. I found one from American Muscle for $50.

Both, and yes I want to do away with the converters. Not worried about gas milage. This is just a second play car.

Thats what I heard, headers were more trouble than they're worth. It does already have a K&N filter on it.

Oh and I forgot to mention, the car has Steeda mufflers on it already. They sound ok, but I always liked flows.

Then I agree with what MM said. Flowmasters definitely have a way with how a Mustang sounds. Can't go wrong there. I've got 'em on my '91 and wish I had 'em on my '08. I have magnaflows on it now, and they just don't have the same sound.

ETA: Don't know if you are aware, but check out Late Model Restoration Mustang Parts & Accessories at 50resto They have pretty good prices and have lots of stuff, mostly for the fox bodies, though. Summit Racing is also where I get lots of stuff, too.

I, too, had a Mac and loved it with a Mac H-pipe. St. Mary's doesn't have emissions so we can get away with no catalytic converters :yahoo:

I have a 91 5.0

I love the sound of flows. Personally I would go the extra mile and get rid of those manifolds. I don't know what they look like on the newer mustangs but they are very restrictive.

I have BBK shorties Mac H Pipe and Flows out the back....before I had converters and I didn't like it. Now with the mac H pipe with no converters I have the sound I want.

Go for headers with no converters...shorties are a lot easier to install than long tubes!

Is this the same Tommy who used to operate just north of Hughesville and is or was a DC cop? If so I have a few choice words about him and none are good.

I am partial to Flowmasters on my Camaro. Mustangs have sweet sounding motors with almost any aftermarket high flow exhaust.

Did you get the exhaust yet... if not mangnaflow "magnapacks" are on Amazon.com with a 30% off discount code... I got them shipped to my house for a final price of $370 delivered. There is suppose to be the same deal going on for catted and no cat X-pipes from magnaflow too. Really can't beat the deal on them.

Deal on Magnapack exhaust 350 shipped - 2003-04 Mach 1 Registry Owners Club

Read this entire thread on how to get the discount. It works.
