Reported serious with entrapment.
Does not sound too bad now, holding units on scene. One vehicle reported on its side. Pt. extricated and being evaluated by EMS. No need for medevac. Sounds like 1 transport to St. marys and 1 refusal. 2 being transported. South bound Rt 5 shut down while roadway is cleaned up. Fire Units will be clearing shortly.

the poor dad
There was an accident in this general area yesterday afternoon with 2 flown out. Southbound vehicle ran off the road and hit a parked car in a driveway, causing said parked car to hit another parked vehicle, which was shoved into the side of the house.

How much you wanna bet, the reason is people NOT obeying the posted speed limit on RT5?

I wanna bet $5,000 on today's accident. I'm betting on "failure to yield the right of way" NOT speeding.

I would take that action. Of course, speed might be listed as a factor in the reports, but the cause will be failure to yield in almost all cases judging by what I've seen passing by a few of them. Speeds are not too high through there actually, especially given it's at the bottom of two hills. Not to many passing on the right for SB folks turning onto Willows, mostly due to that house right there and the glut of vehicles parked there.

Still want to make that bet?

(Just reread it, and I was not referring to Danzigs bet, of course:)

Ah, here it is. And dont be fooled by the link going to The Truth About Cars website, theres a direct link to the NHTSA study right in the beginning of the article.

NHTSA Study: Speed a Critical Factor in 5% of Crashes | The Truth About Cars

Thats the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, for those who are not up on acronyms. the federal agency charged with just what it's title implies. So, after decades of "SPEED KILLS!!!!!!!", they finally got around to doing real research, not just compiling submitted accident reports from local agencies. They had researchers ready to go around the country, and those researchers actually responded to crash sites along with the first responders and did their own investigation.

And the findings were pretty clear. Only %5 of crashes listed speed as the critical factor. Thats why just saying "slow down and dont crash" is silly. Much better is "Dont drive like crap and dont crash" People are not crashing because they are going fast, they are crashing because they drive like crap. But at least we are not Russia....

Pretty crazy stuff. What surprises me is the things that don't elicit comments from the drivers..... going along the highway, here comes a car, full speed on it's roof across four lanes on it's roof.

I had to watch the whole video. :faint: It felt like I was watching a 5 year old play GTA  What's up with the powerlines just randomly falling (before someone got a chance to smash into the pole) ? And some of those pedestrians could be people on Great Mills Road by the liquor store!

They showed a clip of this one, my favorite. I want to do this sometimes to people around here.

Throughout, they show random people in the road that they have to dodge. Like on GMR. And towards the end, maybe the last clip, 3-4 people walking across the street and a guy just comes and lays down on the car

That one made me

That was pretty entertaining. Too much amazing stuff to mention. Do they all have video cameras now and just drive around recording traffic and drinking vodka?

You win:

On Monday December 17 at 4:15pm, police fire and rescue crews responded to the report of a serious accident along Route 5 and Willows Road in Park Hall.

Crews arrived on the scene to discover two vehicles involved. A Toyota Tacoma overturned with one patient trapped, and a Toyota Sienna on the side the roadway.

Two people were transported from the scene to St. Mary’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigation revealed, the Sienna failed to yield the right of way to the Tacoma.
