MVFD Panhandling?

I was wondering why we pay some of the highest state income tax, highest property tax and even a county income tax, yet we still have volunteer emergency services?
This should most likely be another thread as it has nothing to do with the topic at hand... please check with MMDad.

Two times I watched as the light turned green and they had to make their way across the left lane to where they stood and waited for traffic to stop. IMO when the light turns green people gas it! Aren't used to dodging people in the roadway
Yep, when the light turns green usually people do gas it, but on the other hand if you are sitting at a red light and you see the people walking and collecting money and usually more people will support this cause than not, a regular person would not just jump the gun and hit the gas, they would have a bit more patience to be sure that person they just saw in front of them or beside them had safely made it to the side of the road before going. and your punk a$$ will be in alot more distress if they don't have the funds to fill their gas tanks dickwad
I think everybody is low on funds for gas and everyone is suffering. So I can relate to that, but I will be filling my gas tank first so I can make a living before I will be filling up someone elses.

I'm gonna guess because people keep volunteering. If they were not volunteer that would wreck some of MD's wealth redistribution schemes.

For the record, you'd be filling up less often if you didn't gas it when the light turns green. A gentle, gradual pressure on the gas pedal would be much more cost effective. Then you would have a little extra for donations.

I roll up the window. I have no idea if these beggars are who they claim to be. Probably some parent stole a fire boot so they can send their precious snowflake to cheer camp.

If all the rescue squad and firemen are out collecting money and one gets run over who do they call........ themselves? :confusing:

Well lets just hope they never run out of gas coming to your house..... I seriously doubt 5 dollars would have made you bouce checks in your checking account. I am low on my funds, but I realize there is always someone worse off than me. I dont dontate to too many causes, and if I happened upon a fire department seeking donations via "the middle of the road", I would think, they really needed money and I would think of what it is that I could do without this week and at least pull out a twenty and give it to them.

I want them to make it to my house if I ever need them, and I want their truck full of gas because we live in rural area and there are no fire hydrants, so therefore they will have to go the lake to fill up each time they need water, so I pray that there are more people out there like me and not like you jjsmommy99 because I seriously would like them to have a full tank of gas among any other things that require our fire department to run.

intersection at GB and 5 is especially busy on Sat (Farmer's Market Day). Donating....def not a prob....but impeding traffic is a no-no!
A busy intersection may not be such a bad idea, the more cars that pass, the more money they make. I was not there, but I would like to think they would be a bit considerate as far as not to cause any more issues with traffic than there already is. Wouldnt they just walk past cars as they were stopped at a red light and move to the grass once it turned green? I dont see how that would present a problem...
I went through that intersection several times Saturday and they never impeded traffic in any way. As a matter of fact, as Dawn suggested, they were all very polite. They waited in the median on the grass until the cars were stopped, then just walked along side. I think it is a very worthy cause and donate every time I see any fire department/rescue squad doing, this no matter where I am. I've even donated to departments in other states.
