MVFD Panhandling?

Maybe because there arent enough people either donating to the fire department or attending the fund raisers and they have to take different measures to raise money. This is one cause I never mind donating to. Hughesville VFD comes to our house yearly offering coupons for picture portraits in exchange for donations. I happily give.
We just write a check to them (HVFD) - we can never make it for the pictures.

for the FF :wah:
Don't be a dick about it...

pound you, too
Took me a second to figure it out! :killingme

As a volunteer in PG County (Southside), our station does some yearly fundraising ourselves, mostly through the fund drives and portrait drive. Last year we went to our local Wawa on 301 and McKendree Road, to do a fundraiser for our new Fire Engine/Rescue Engine. We raised over $1,000 in 4 to 6 hours, thanks for all who supported us! Unlike the 3 Southern Maryland Counties, we do not have fire taxes, we raise the money ourselves. The majority of it comes from renting our fire hall for occassions. Recently the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department Fire Chief Larry Sedgwick, thought it was an amazing idea to shut down all events at every volunteer station in the county who rents their halls out "there is a long long story about this"... Anyway, we are here for the citizens and are truly not like other stations in southern maryland. We are a volunteer corporation with a career staff 24/7 to replenish staffing while our volunteer members are at work, etc. Also the County Fire Chief has pulled all 3rd pumpers from County fuel, insurance and maintenance. We are not allowed to run a third engine from our station anymore, we still have it, and is currently for sale. Also we have to pay out of pocket to drive that fire engine which costs over $120 to fill up, it has a 60 gallon diesel fuel tank. You think it is bad down here in the Tri-County area, come up to PG and see what we have to go through. In order to Volunteer with any station, your background check is now almost 3 months long, that includes your physical and stress tests, when I became a volunteer back in 2002, it took me less than a month. This county is really screwing the volunteers up here, no lie.

Here is a little information about our station. Station 40 has volunteers that offer their services free of charge to the citizens of Brandywine and the surrounding areas. We are Volunteers who are Proud of the Professional Service we provide to our community and surrounding areas. Our volunteers are well trained and certified volunteers who re-certify yearly and serve as Volunteer Firefighters, and EMT's, and Officers, saving the citizens and tax payers millions of dollars each year. ALL of this apparatus is Volunteer Purchased, Volunteer Owned and Volunteer Insured against damage. Our station is also Volunteer Owned! WE WANT ALL OF OUR CITIZENS in the community and surrounding areas to know, Prince Georges County
Residence DO NOT PAY taxes to directly fund the fire department, and despite the Prince Georges County Councils. Report sent to citizens of this county that we are financially sound, that is WRONG. Funds dedicated to the VOLUNTEER Corporations of this county were slashed by order of the Fire Chief, under direction of the County Council and County Executive. Furthermore the Volunteer corporations of this county who rent their halls such as Brandywine have been denied the required permits to continue to rent them to ensure recent apparatus purchases stay in their communities, continue to be purchased and serving the community. This is being done despite the fact VOLUNTEERS save Prince Georges County MILLIONS of dollars EVERY year in man hours, and apparatus purchases. OVER 90% of
the fire and rescue apparatus in Prince Georges County is volunteer purchased, owned, and insured, and now your county Fire Chief, Council and County Executive are endangering the ownership and future purchases of this invaluable apparatus, citing unproven concerns for personnel as their justification. SUPPORT YOUR VOLUNTEERS by letting the County Executive, and County Council know you support your fire department, and are opposed to the budget cuts and denial of permits.

Did anybody see memebers of the MVFD panhandling at the intersection of Golden Beach Road and Route 5 on Saturday? Kind of find this a tad ridiculous....almost like they are begging like vagabonds. All they needed was a "God Bless You" sign written on a piece of cardboard! Stick to other fundraisers instead of bothering people on the side of the road for a buck!
And when was the last time you donated to the ALL VOLUNTEER Fire adn Rescue service that is NOT PAID to protect your life and oyur property?

Well...:tap:
How much and when???

None?

Just as I thought....

Dont complain until you do a few 24 hours with the ALL VOLUNTEER Fire and Rescue!!!

Signed: EMT/FF..about 25 years worth of volunteer service.
