...recommendations???

Around $200 or so?

Are they a 'must' try on thing or are they pretty close and online buying is good enough?

I always used to try them on because sometimes the heel is too loose on me for my taste, or the straps dont adjust the way I like them to, or they pinch in weird places, or the toe box wasnt wide enough... Never stuck to one particular brand.

From my experience, the brands pretty much stick to the same sizing though. Anything around 200 will be a pretty good boot. I've had O'neal and Fox in dirt boots and Alpinestar and Sidi in street boots.

I've tried on in stores, then bought the same boot online, unless the store can give me a good price (only happened with the O'Neal boots)

One site I looked at said they tend to be a size small. Not the case from your experience?

Sounds like I should skip looking for 'the good deal on line' and just try some on. Drat. I found pair of FOX F3's for $150! But I'm worried about the fit...

Tnx.

I edited the post...

yeah I think the Sidi's ran a bit smaller IIRC

did you try denniskirk.com ? they have a free catalog.

also I'd invest in at least one set of good MX boot socks, they make a big difference in comfort but do get a bit warmer.

My son uses the Sidi Crossfire...They are hinged and he really likes them...He had Fox and they didn't work for him....BTW he has a pair of Fox size 13 that he wants to get rid of....Like Dustin said: get a good pair of thick MX socks.....Just a matter of what YOU are comfortable with...Look here: Boots - ATV parts and Motocross Gear Online - MotoSport

...size 13??? I thought your boy was a little guy?! How much for the 13's? That might be perfect for me!?

Would THIS face lie?
No, he's 20...There is a story behind these boots...He saw them and HAD to have them....He knew they were a little big for him but he was afraid he'd miss out on them...(We bought them for him) He wears an 11 so he figured they'd be OK...(17 YO kid) He wore them for a while and the Sidi's came along and he got a deal on them so he got a pair that fits a little better...He dropped down to the 11 and they are fine....These Fox boots are in good condition...All the catches work and they are not all beat up...He did use them for one season though...He'd probably take whatever you offered if they'll work for you....It is something you would have to try on...

found...

...a pair of Fox proforma's on Craigslist two weeks ago, got 'em for $150. The kid even delivered them! For whatever reason, he just didn't like them, wore them once, been sitting in a closet since last Christmas.

Now, to just get used to shifting with real boots on...

Go take a shower with them on - like you would with a pair of cowboy boots. Honestly... The leather will form your feet/ankles/legs and the fit will be much better.

I always found shifting with MX boots is a complete lower leg operation, as you cannot bend your ankle so much. It takes some getting use to, but after a day you get use to them. I prefer them on the MX bike - but on my quad I use regular work boots as I have full floor boards. Thank God for my Sportsman 600 and the CVT tranny
