Hi I have a 4 year old little girl who is afraid to sleep in her room. I've tried night lights, staying in there until she falls asleep. I've put stuff on the walls that she likes but nothing seems to be working.I've even read books to her before bed. If anyone has had this problem what have you done to solve it? Thanks for any help.

Why is she affraid. Could it be that she's not really affraid and she's just playing you for a sucker to get her way? Kids are smart ya know.

When Boy was 2 I got a big stuffed dog and put it outside the door to his room. "Roscoe" was a monster guard dog.

I also put on an army surplus helmet I got from DRMO and checked his closets and under his bead before the lights went out.

I just found the helmet yesterday in the storage closet. :bawl:

If she is 4... does that mean she will be starting school next week? If so... use this as the "springboard" to her becoming a big girl. Tell her she needs to start sleeping in her room this weekend so she can get used to it so she will sleep good in her room on school nights. You can compromise by allowing her to sleep in a sleeping bag on her floor near the door tonight, then she will move her sleeping bag closer to her bed tomorrow night, and then Sunday she will sleep in her sleeping bag on top her bed. Monday night will be in the bed without the sleeping bag. Tell her the complete plan up front and tell her it is not an option. As her mother, you know how important a good night sleep is to a child and it is your job to help her to learn to sleep on her own.

Is it "monsters" she's afraid of? I re-decorated a can of lysol air freshener into "MONSTER SPRAY - KILLS MONSTERS DEAD" and sprayed before bed. She believed it.

You have to get rid of the slavering monster in the closet.

For some reason it always freaks kids out.

Seriously, you need to pick ONE and MAKE IT WORK. You can't back down and let her back into your bed when you get tired of dealing with it. You'll never get her in her bedroom that way. Good luck.
