My dog loves me too much...

I leave and the dog stays by the door the entire time crying. (my wife says)

I come to the door and I can hear her crying. I walk in the door and I get mauled. She's so excited to see me that she just can't get enough love and attention fast enough.

She follows me everywhere and has to be in the same room as me.

MY dog is a black lab, she's two. We rescued her from a shelter when she was just a pup. I love her but she's driving me nuts.

Why is my dog so needy? She gets lots of love...

When will she settle down?

Do I love my dog too much? Is this why she's so attached to me?

It's getting to the point where I want to get rid of her bu tthe thought of her leaving or living with some one else makes me very sad.

My German Shepherd was very needy too. I have started to just give a quick pat and not encourage the neediness when I got home. She'd get pushy or swat you with her paw to pet her. It sucks but I've had to start ingnoring the behavior so she'd stop. We do have our walks and play time still.

I have a shelter dog too. She did the exact same stuff you mentioned and I got her when she was also 2. I figured it was separation anxiety. After having her a year and 3 months she finally goes outside by herself. I still have the problem of her wanting to be in the same room as me all the time and when I come home, she is still there to greet me at the door. I just don't pet her until I get up the steps and put my stuff down.

Yes-this.

If you give her the attention when she acts that way you are conditioning her to continue. See if you can ignore a bit (i know-hard) and give her attention more on your terms when she isn't asking for it.

Good luck-and kudos for rescuing!

I have a poodle that is clingy like that and I have another poodle which is a rescue, but he is not as clingy. He is his own man.

I got a similar situation times 2. Not the crying part, but the excited welcome everytime I come home. Same thing happens with the wife, but not all jumping and barking. We think some of it is because I take them out in the yard and play with them more than the wifie does when she comes home. I don't mind it though, because after a long hard day at work it's a great cheering up type welcome.

The dog even gets jealous if I hug my kids or get affectionate with my wife. She started growling at my wife this morning when she was hugging me.

We've tried several different things to get her to lighten up but none have worked thus far. Funny thing about her is that if she gets out she'll bolt and she doesn't answer when you call her.

Her affection is very flattering, but it's jut over the top sometimes.

My pup, I've had him before I married my husband. He is very crazy (the dog) - barking when me and the hubby kiss good-bye for the day. We can't hug. lol.

She needs formal training. Had the same problem with my dog and hubby. We put the dog in training classes with my hubby working with her also. that way she saw him as a leader also. It may be funny now but can lead to big problems.
