my dog needs a good home

Hello to everyone,

I am such a dog lover and have three of them. I have a blonde lab, golden retriever, and a black chow/lab. We are looking for a good home for our chow/lab ( name is Finnegan). My wife and I are expecting and we just think three dogs is a bit much. We love them all, its just something we have decided. Finnegan is so lovable and delicate. He is neutered but still has his wild ways. He loves to rome so a big fenced in yard or pasture would be great for him. He is four years old and I know it would take him a bit to come to terms with new owners like it would any dog but I assure you he would come around. He is very healthy as he has all of his shots and just got back from his latest check up. Please feel free to contact me by private e-mail or private message and I will be more than happy to give you more info. I myself am Stationed here at Pax River for the next two years and love it here. My e-mail is stfore411@aol.com. Thank you.

Thanks,
tyty4

Exuses, exuses and more exuses. I can imagine how many times shelter workers have heard these.

I had just read a comment on a site today saying that they hear it so often about a new baby on the way and a member of their family (the dog) has to go. Is it that much trouble to keep your dog? He's your family. Didn't you realize that he is a committment?

I guess that means you won't have any more children after the birth of this one, right? After all, another one might be a bit too much, just like this dog is now considered as being too much since your wife is expecting.

1) A dog lover but has to rid himself of his family member. Would you think of doing this with the next child you have?
2) I'm sure by the description you gave your dog loves it there too. Guess he can't look forward to being there for the next two years as you will.

dogs do have a hard time adjusting to new owners etc especially after you have had them for years etc. Yesterday bruno went on a play date and the person who had her said she spent her first hour with her tail inbetween her legs scared then after that she started to warm up. she then discovered he had land to run around on and she spent hours doing it she came home pooped which is good because I have been tired due to allergies kicking my rear end. I think today shes going on another play date for a few hours as I have things to do before I go to work. I am hoping today she doesn't walk around with her tail inbetween her legs again but she might.

I would never give up my dog even though sometimes I am like boy is she being a pain today but I deal with it as the dog is only 2yrs old.

Are you and Lance related?

What are you going to do, if you don't rethink your decision, and you don't find a good home (besides the good home he already now has) ... where's Finnegan going to go? To the animal control shelter where he has potential of being pts?

I myself am a animal lover. I would never part with my animals for anything. But some of you need to get a grip. Some people who post on here are damned if they do and damned if they don't. You are having a fit cause he is TRYING to find the dog a good home but I bet if you went to his home you would find something he was doing with the dog to say he is a bad owner. I love my dogs, they are my babies, but i do understand when people say their children come first.

He should've thought about the number of dogs he has when he took them in and how it was going to be if things later changed. The dogs were already there first and a part of that family. She's expecting now so it's time to pitch one of them because it's a bit too much.

I'm sure he's a good dog owner having mentioned he's up on his shots and had a recent visit. And he wants to make sure so that he's ready for adoption. That's commendable because that's a plus when trying to adopt out.

I do hope Finnegan finds a home. And I hope they make certain that whoever adopts him thinks about their future so that Finnegan doens't end up searching for another home again for this reason or any other.

The point is that people need to think about these things when they bring pets into their homes.

Do you know how often that happens when a family is expecting a baby and the dog has to go?

Ask the rescue groups and shelters.

And needless to say, black-colored dogs don't always get adopted that rapidly. That's the one he's pitching.

We got Rassie, at age 8, under the same circumstances. Owners had a second child and got rid of both their dogs. Luckily, Rassie was at Calvert rescue. I went up there looking for a lap dog and ended up with an 80 pound lab. She is loved, very well trained, and well taken care of. People will adopt the older dogs, I think. I fell in love with her the second I met her and she was delivered two days later. A home inspection was done. I am so glad we foiund her. ( Actually, Catt found her and sent me the informationa, thanks Catt) There were several other people that wanted her. I think the guy giviing his dog away is doing what he feels needs to be done. Also, I think the chow breed is likely to attack. At least he is trying to find a home, rather than taking the dog to the shelter. Give him a break.

I have worked with shelters and rescue groups so i know the stories. Just like the dog i adopted and the past owner said he had to get rid of her because he became allergic to her. That was not the case at all. He beat the living crap out of her and she was half starved when he dumped her off cause he did not want to fool with her anymore. So the stories the shelters get is not always the truth. I think that is a bigger problem than trying to re-home a dog that has been taken care of. He could have dumped the dog at a shelter but he hasn't. She could have been put to sleep by now, but she hasn't been. As far as him not thinking about the future when he got the dog, who can predict the future? Babies do not always happen as planned.

The point is that people *DON'T THINK* [emphasis on think] ahead of time regardless.

And babies don't always happen as planned.

For animals there's spay and nueter.
For humans, there's birth control.

I hope he does find Finnegan a home and I commend him for trying. I'd commend him more so if he (and a zillion others) could understand the meaning of the word COMMITTMENT.

One thing to remember everybody that wants to give this guy a hard time:

You call his dog a member of the family. In other parts of the world they call it dinner.

At least he's not turning it out loose or just taking it directly to the pound.

It's not to give him a hard time. It's to make people think.

How about the "I want a puppy for Christmas and other dumb, holiday ideas?" I hope after the child is born and is old enough to ask for a puppy that he'll remember this. Again, the word think. Or will it be "Finnigan, Episode 2?"

If everybody did [think] then the shelters would be underfilled which would be a good thing as I'm sure everybody agrees.

Fortunately we're not in other parts of the world and I know about all the animal issues there down to the testosterone.

But, we're in the U.S. and we have our own issues here. This is just one of them.

To bad not everyone on the world is as perfect as some people think they are............i give up. Some people will argue till they are blue in the face. You know what, this does not effect my day to day life so i don't care. I feel bad that the one dog gets picked out of all of them to be re-homed but so be it. If it bothers you so bad than YOU go get the dog.
BTW, birth control is not 100% effective

Get a grip. Heck, 50% of marriages are started with good intentions and don't make it past 10 years. Things happen. Circumstances change. Life happens. Get over it.
