My Dog watches to much football

I guess she thought she was Tom Brady.... she blew her ACL (rear left leg)yesterday while chasing a rabbit. I wish I had Brady's team of surgeons (and his money). They will operate next Tuesday.
Has anyone here had a dog that went thru this type of surgeon ?
If so, how well did they recover ? Any long term disability ?

My GSD had to have knee surgery. He recovered fine, the hard part is keeping your dog quiet and resting during recovery/recuperation. He had no long term problems after that.

Where are you getting the surgery done? Are you getting the TPLO procedure?

My dog tore his ACL a few years ago. I decided not to go with surgery, because Scooter was 9 at the time, and I felt his other knee would be under too much stress. Plus, the vet told me it may or may not work. I limited his activity, and today you can't even tell there was a problem (he's 12 now). I still try to limit his activity, but he can play fetch and loves to swim (which is a great way for him to get exercise and not put any weight on the leg).

Good luck with the surgery! :huggy:

We had a dog that had that done. Like Kom said, the hardest part for us was keeping her calm. No jumping on the couch or even going up or down stairs for a few weeks. That was difficult to manage. She ended up just fine. She was 11 when she had it done and lived another 3 years and wasn't bothered by it.

I miss my GSD - great breed. This little one is a corgi (I consider her a mini GSD :).
Not sure of the procedure yet - we consult with the surgeon next Tuesday and they told us he will probably want to do surgery then - evidently a bad tear. We have been handling this thru the Emergency hospital in Waldorf. The surgeon is Dr. Justin Greco.
Keeping her quiet and rested will be a challenge for sure.
