My Dumb Cat

GeezLouise

tired and content....
She is refusing to use her litter box. It's clean and I have even taken the top of of it off. I've tried switching litters, etc etc. She goes right outside of the litter box. I don't see why she can't take the extra two steps to go inside of it!

Any suggestions?

Have you cleaned it with strong detegent? She may be smelling that.

Nope....I have even bought a new one to no avail. When we first got her she would not go in one that had the hood type top on it, so we removed that and she was fine. I think she's just being a biatch.

Is she an outdoor cat at all?

Nope, she's an indoor kitty. Maybe she doesn't like to share with my other cat? But it was never a problem before. The other cat was here before her and she used to use the litter box. And I know it's her, because I have caught her in the act!

Then I wouldn't be too worried about getting toxoplasmosis and I'd say it is safe to change her litter box.

I'm not sure why your kitty would have a reason to be upset. She may just sense something is different and she's trying to get attention.

Can I have the lid off yours. Mine insist on all litter being outside of box. And I got rid of my nice litter box long time ago. Now I need it back and im too cheap cause soon they will be pottying outside with the rest of them.

For the sweet person that left me red because I let my cats out, My babies love to go outside and lay on my porch. For the most part they do not kill the songbirds. They kill moles and bunnies. I have tried to keep them inside and they wont be haveing any of it. So get over it. I dont like it when they kill other animals but its the circle of life food chain. And if you could see how proud they are to show mama what they brought in. And my oldest cat was just the other day out showing the kittens how its done with a small mouse. They make me so proud.

My cat did that one time yrs ago when he had a urinary tract infection/stones...he peed right in front of me on my couch (got rid of that couch quick...). He was trying to get my attention.

Try using two litterboxes. You are supposed to have at least one litterbox per cat. Also, she may be sensing your pregnancy and the fact that your husband is tending to her litter may be causing her to act out. She may be just trying to get YOUR attention because she misses you taking care of her. Try to pay extra attention to her with extra scratches behind the ears and pets here and there. When the baby gets here she will most likely react to that too. The best thing you can do is let her investigate the baby while your holding him/her so she can see that things are ok. Then REALLY make sure you give her plenty of attention or she will be jealous of the baby too. Good Luck. :huggy:

Put the litter box on a large sheet of plastic and see what she does. Cats don't like to poo on plastic.
