Research by an acclaimed US psychologist suggests that 80 per cent of men who are homophobic have secret homosexual feelings.

This finding lends scientific support to the long-standing speculation that those who shout the loudest against homosexuality have something to hide.

I wonder if there is any other physiological explanation besides arousal. It doesn't say how much enlargement is considered arousal.

Could be many scientific reasons why a man would show signs of enlargement when looking at homo-pornography. My hypothesis is that when a man feels demasculinated (is that a word?), as he might when looking at this stuff, his physiological response may be to make himself appear larger, thus making him appear more masculine.

I could also be possible that they were measuring normal fluctuations in a man's size. From experience, I can tell you that a man's stuff moves around a lot during the day, and based on temperature, movements, and other factors, over the course of several minutes I'd have no doubt that some of the mens' sizes probably fluctuated.

I think they need more data to verify though. I think it's quite possible that some of these homophobes are closet homosexuals, but I think the conclusion that this study draws is a rush to judgement, at least based on what was presented in the article.

I think all human beings become sexually aroused when viewing any kind of pornography, straight or not. Could be what they're seeing or they could be applying what they see to a different scenario.

My opinion is that number is probably too high. Here's my theory--I think most homophobes believe fervently in the old gender roles regarding dating, with the man as the great white hunter and the women as hunting trophies. Due to personal insecurities, they find false comfort in being the hunter. So homosexuality probably terrifies these men because they worry that gays seem them as the hunting trophies.

I agree the percentage is high too.
But they are on to something huh? Some of them being tested are probably already in a homo relationship and afraid of being found out

The kind of men I described, I don't think homosexuality arouses them at all. They just don't want to be anyone's biatch. Maybe they equate homosexuality with prison rape, which has nothing to do with sexual desire.

Or else, as gay activists argue, those men are using hate to deny their "true" feelings, like the old veteran in the movie American Beauty. I think those activists long for a moral victory over the kind of men who killed Matthew Shepherd. That will never happen. In my view, their argument is too convenient and simplistic. Some people simply have moral objections to homosexuality, and that isn't homophobia.

I think that's probably right. BUT you have to wonder what kind of guys would submit to being tested in this fashion in the first place. Larry isn't even a homophobe and I know for fact he'd rather have his eyes ripped out than watch two guys going after it. (Lesbians, however, do not evoke this same response )

So I think this "study" is probably horseshit, just like most of the other "studies" these people publish.
