My home computer is DEAD.

Did you feel something hit you in the back of the head when you paid $50 for that? I paid $20 for mine...
No $20.00 enclosures to be found over the weekend. All 3.5" were over $60.00. BestBuy has one on sale this week for $50.00. Gonna look around before I buy one.

We bought a new one over the weekend. Just a new tower. Came home and hooked it up to our 18 month old monitor and the monitor was dead. :banghead: Went back out and bought a new monitor.

Comparing new PC to old one is like comparing an Enzo Ferrari to a Yugo.

Gonna hold onto the old PC and turn it into a kid computer if we can get it running again.
Check the old PC with the new monitor. Could have been the monitor all along.

Put ubuntu on it and it will run faster and better then your new one for the kid. Plus you won't have virus/spyware/ransomware to deal with. It is is really easy anymore and the features you can get for it for free are great.

Probably was the monitor all along... the first error messages I got were about an improperly installed hardware or software. But the computer was having tons of small issues, so we'd need a new computer soon anyway.

Two items of note...VISTA sucks and MSWord 2007 sucks more. We got a trial of MSOffice 2007...need to dig out the MS2000 disc.

No probs with word, just a totally different look and I had to reconfigure my tool bar to my liking.

Beware excel 2007!!!! Locks up everytime it opens a 97-2003 file. :burning:

When it is turned on, we get a white screen of nothing. Completely dead.

Anybody on here willing to come out and try to get it running again?

If not, who should I call/take it to?

Is this a Desktop or Laptop ? - sounds like a bad video card ............

......
Now mine is dead. :dead: :bawl: Must be that time of the year. Nothing on the monitor and all I hear when I start is a fan running constantly that wasn't running constantly before. Always heard the one for the video card start and stop when I hit the "on" button then the computer boots up. It won't even boot up now. Power Supply??

The toolbar is so retarded that I had to go to the help menu just to figure out how to print. I've only typed one document so far, but I need to figure out how to reconfigure the toolbar.

My other problem is that I have a bunch of files in publisher...I know publisher sucks, but it was the best I had for the purpose. Pagemaker would be better, but I'm cheap. I'm going to have to install the old MSOffice to open those files.

Everyone deserves Linux. Microsoft is great at marketing and short on delivery. You pay through the nose for Microsoft stuff that is free on Linux.

True most kids don't deserve nice things, but every once in a while a parent will raise a good kid and they deserve to be rewarded.

It's not even just Linux, it's all the great software made by non-profit consortiums. Have you ever checked out Open Office? GREAT alternative to MS Office. www.openoffice.org
