My New Guilty Pleasure

You may have heard about it, the Smith Island Cake. It's the Maryland State Cake (didn't know states had a state cake...)

Anyway, I just thought it was a multi-layer cake. Giant had mini-versions of a few varieties, so I got a chocolate.

omg.

After I devoured that one, I got a coconut version.

omg.

They had a red velvet too, but I don't dare go back there again.

You can order the full size versions online.

My new guilty pleasure has been tiramisu. Still haven't gotten around to making one, though.

I thought it was just a multi-layered cake as well. Are the ingredients different somehow?

This time of year refrigerated Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs are my guilty pleasure. That and the Cadbury Mini Eggs.

After your Mascarpone tread I made one. I made the cheese first - very easy, just have to do it a day ahead. I didn't realize how much coffee the lady fingers would soak up, so I ended up with too much coffee in it, and therefore too much liquid. But the flavors and textures were good.

Where would you recommend getting some really good tiramisu so I have something to compare mine to? The only ones I've found have ingredients like "coffee flavoring" and instead of custard it's really a pudding. I know better than to think the chain restaurants would be "authentic."

McKays, the new old one. I don't see it every time I go in, so I'd call first, and I've only seen it in individual servings, not the whole cake.

Since my wife and kids don't like coffee, I ended up eating the whole thing by myself. My belt will pop if I do that again, so the individual is perfect.

Which McKay's is "new old?"

On L-town road. The McKays in L-town has horrible tiramisu. Don't go there.
