My older dog

OK now that he is getting older he is having a hard time holding it during the day. It just makes me sad he is getting older.

I have been putting potty pads in his crate that I get for puppy training. He soaks through them since he is a big boy. Anyone else have older dogs and what potty pads have you used? I try to get home during lunch but it isn't always possible.

Aww poor boy. You know that makes them feel bad when that happens. My mini poodle is 13 and is having issues. His hearing is gone. So far no real pee problems (just a couple little ones). Good luck with your boy and I don't know anything about what piddle pads are best.

If no one can come up with any other better suggestions, I have some washable bedliners (I'm thinking they may be 31x31) that you could put on underneath the disposable pads to ensure coverage. I could give you 2 or 3 if you think they would help.

Are the potty pads they put in human beds a better choice? It's what they use to keep the hospital and home care beds from getting soaked.

The Piddle Pads for animals are probably better, if not cheaper. Could your old guy have a UTI? Maybe there is a medication for animals that might help with his issue.

A petsitter to come in and let him out a couple times a day?

I get the human ones at Sams club... they are twice as big and the BIG PACK of them are like 25 bucks... I will say they are cheaper than ones you get for the dogs.

just looked them up.... 23x36 120 ct. 23.48

im sure you cant beat that price. :buddies: (i use to buy them back in 2003 when my older GSD was dealing with DM and needed them as he would have accidents.)

We use those for my relative's Newfoundland that has potty issues (was a puppy mill rescue). Walmart has the Large (or XL) for a decent price.

WOW I'm going to BJ's to get some for the Newfie! Got a 60 day free pass I can use somewhere.... I stay away from the clubs because I tend to want to get extra stuff also. Like if I had unlimited storage I'd probably stock up on a lifetime supply of TP and PT and other staples that don't "expire".

I know it really upsets him which is why I never yell at him about it. He is such a good baby and it upsets him.

I can see about getting a pet sitter. I also take him to daycare a couple days a week when I can. He is such a sweet boy.

I know it is hard to see our loving animal companions grow old, and begin to have ailments. That is the hardest thing because we know they won't live as long as we do, but we choose to bring them into our lives. Pets bring so much joy and warmth to our lives, so it is a tradeoff for the future that we know will hurt us. The fact is that us humans give them great lives, and the companionship is so appreciated by them, and they show it in their actions, but just can't tell us in words. My mother always said, 'you can see the love in their eyes'. I hope your baby has many more years.

One slight correction mamatutu. The fact is that our pets give us great lives, and the companionship is so appreciated by us and them, and we and they show it in their and our interactions. Your Mom's words are wise 'you can see the love in their eyes' , and their actions.
