This seems HILARIOUS! For one, it has an incredible comedy pedigree - starring Jack Black, from the director of Napoleon Dynamite, and from the writer of School Of Rock. Wow, awesome. Plus, the trailers are so absurd, colorful, and fun. This definitely seems to be a great summer comedy and I'll see it in theatres.

Wait - I, a heterosexual male, just said I am excited for a film where Jack Black is shirtless 99% of the time. The hardcore Christian fundamentalists are right - the apocalypse is right around the corner. ;---)

I saw it a few nights ago and thought it was "kind of" alright. By "kind of" alright, I mean it's a watchable comedy with a handful of laugh-out-loud hilarious moments. However, I was also rather disappointed as a longtime fan of Jack Black's comedy style (in my opinion, when he's "on," he's way funnier than Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, and Vince Vaughn, though not quite as great as my favorite movie funnyman, Will Ferrell). The film had an extremely awkward tone and had zero momentum - it just lazily wanders around from joke to joke (most of which are just smile-worthy or completely lame and/or gross). Also, Jack, with his bad wig and worse Mexican accent (though I'm gonna assume the latter's intentional), didn't feel like Jack - the whole character just never snugly came together with his comic persona. He's just as miscast here as he was in King Kong (an otherwise excellent action epic). I miss that unforgettable comedy magic he showed off in films like School Of Rock, Orange County, and the highly underrated John Cusack romantic comedy High Fidelity.

Leaving Nacho Libre, I was reminded of how I felt leaving last year's Fun With Dick & Jane. I wasn't completely letdown by that either, but it was nowhere near as funny as I was hoping it would be and it lacked that certain spark that makes great comedies great (a spark seen recently in Anchorman, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, and Sideways, among others). Nacho Libre isn't a disaster, but it's also not worth your time in theatres. I'd say wait for DVD or even TV - it just ain't that funny, sadly.

Man, with Nacho Libre falling flat and The Break-Up ending up being more of a romantic drama, this summer's been pretty lackluster for comedy. Hopefully You, Me, & Dupree (Owen Wilson, Matt Dillon, Kate Hudson) and Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby (Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon) turn things around!

Surprise and No Surprise...

I am VERY surprised that DotTheEyes is male! :faint: Neverwouldathunkit!

And it's no surprise that the movie bombed, no matter how much I like Jack Black.

I have no desire to rent it...

Thanks all :yay:
