I'm going away this weekend to Nags Head and have never been there. I was wondering if any of you have been there and can tell me what I can expect, what is there to do?

We watched turtles hatch there a couple of years ago but of course that is when it is warm. You can visit the light houses if you are into that kinda thing.

I'm going with my mom and a friend of hers has a house down there that she rents out and my mom asked me if I wanted to get away for the weekend, so I said yea. Figure it would be some good mother and daughter time. Now, I just got figure out what there is to do.

Theres really not a whole lot to do down there, especially right now. There are lots of good outlets to shop in. This time of year, that's probably about it.

:yeahthat: It's a great place to chill no matter what time of year.

Like Ehesef stated this is still the off season in that area. But if your are need of some down time, this could be a great time to visit.

North of Nags Head, there is Duck and Coralla. Nice shops, art galleries, and some eateries. Check-out Fishbones in Duck, fun place.

Take K-Jos advise, visit the Wright Brother Memorial. They also have a small airport there, where you can take a flight in a vintage biplane. Check out Kill Devil hills, and Kitty Hawk Kites, learn to hang glide.

South of Nags Head, take the drive to Cape Hatteres, see the famous lighthouse, several small towns along the way.

Or just veg in your beach house, drink some beverages, and watch the ocean.

Have Fun!

Our family used to go every year, about 20 of us. We always managed to have a good time, even though there wasn't anything to do. We bought a three-man slingshot and nailed my grandmother with a water balloon. We would shoot through the blinds on the sliding door. No one knew where it came from. You just have to use your imagination down there. If it rains, it REALLY sucks. By the fourth straight day of rain, we were playing leap frog in the living room. All of us, even my grandmother.

:roflmao: Poor Granny! A friend's dad has a house in Kill Devil Hills and a huge group of us used to spend a few weekends a year down there. One day we went to the dunes. I stood there and watched everyone run and jump and roll down them, laughing and squealing with deight. "C'mon KJo, it's awesome!" Then I watched them drag their tired, sweaty, huffing, puffing selves back up to the top. I was there to greet them, smiling. Fresh as a daisy.

Eff those dunes.

As others have said, besides the beach there isn't much to do. Chalk this up as another reference to the Museum and the Kitty Hawk Kite shop- which is kinda cool to walk around in if nothing else.

BTW, it'll take about 5 minutes to find out how small the area really is. Everything is on strip that's only a few miles long.

I was in Columbia, NC this past weekend. We went to NH Saturday and it seemed ok. To me it was a more spread out Ocean City except with a little less to offer. We were going to skin board on the sand dunes but our car broke down instead.
