Any one getting ready for the upcoimg season by watching Speed Channel coverage of Daytona testing 1pm to 6 pm today & tomorrow  ! Nascar is attempting to get away from the 2 car draft to group drafting . Good luck to that idea  , Hamlin had a top lap speed of 202 mph in a 2 car draft . Heard Nascar is adding a rule where drivers can't converse with each other in cars ? Don't understand Nascar thinking on this , but then again I gave up trying to understand Nascar rules :killingme

The latest thing they were talking about trying is telling drivers they can't run in two car packs. Um, good luck enforcing that crap.

They did a lot of practice running around in large packs , so maybe that 2 car pack is history :yahoo: ! Maybe we can get away from your "Talladega Rule" of picking 10 cars at the superspeedways !:buddies:

They might race in packs during parts of the race, but when it counts they'll still run the two car drafts. NASCAR might make some last minute changes, but nothing will matter.

The cars handle better in two car packs thus increasing the speeds. When you get three or more cars lined up, all the cars in the middle of the pack handle really bad and get out of shape.

One idea NASCAR had was to get the cars to run so fast that they have to brake going in to the corners, but even then, they were still breaking off in to tandems.

I beg to differ. When it counts the drivers will do whatever it takes.

And NASCAR will never let them run top speed again. First and foremost there are to many Hot Heads who like to retaliate on track, and secondly all they'd need to do would be get rid of the plates. It ain't gonna happen.

I said it was an idea they had, and it did not work. It wasn't running top speed, it was running just fast enough that they had to lift going in to the corner (thus, breaking the tandems up). They still would use plates. They tried it and the drivers continued to run in the tandem drafts, breaking apart for a second only to reconnect again in the corner. The two car tandems are the fastest way around the track, and this suck ass form of "racing" isn't going away for quite some time. I don't like it because, if there's a late race caution and a shootout to the finish, 50% of the field is forced to settle for second. The big packs, anyone could make the move to win in the final lap, Harvick showed us that in 2007.`

Are you ready? Only 1 car out of 43 can win so that 1 car is 2.33% of the field. Only 1 car can finish 2nd and that car is 2.33% of the field, so your percentages are way off. According to you 50% can come in 2nd so that makes 24 cars coming in 2nd.

Harvick didn't show us anything we haven't seen before because he would have never gotten up front without drafting help regardless if he was pushed by one car or 41 cars, so no, not anyone can win. In a GWC finish drafting partners will be broken up so who ever survives the carnage of the last lap crash will win.:razz::razz::razz:

"50% of the field is forced to settle for second" meaning, since they're pushing a car, they have to continue to do so knowing second is the best they can hope for.

The pack racing was a hell of a lot better than tandem racing. I still prefer real racetracks but we're stuck with four restrictor plate races a year so they might as well give us a show worth watching. I like tracks that require skill, hell David Ragan won at Daytona last year!:killingme

With the radio communications banned, that puts the tandem racing out of the hands of the drivers and in to the hands of spotters and owners. "Let's make a deal" becomes "team orders." I quit watching F1 for a reason.

The tandem racing looks those truck pulls gone fast. The best solution is to tear Daytona Superspeedway and Talladega Superspeedway to the ground and go run at New Smyrna Speedway and the Talladega dirt track. You know, real tracks that require driver skill to win and not just dumb luck.

Or race on the beach again -- I would pay damn good money to see that. :yay:

Well let's see now, a car can only push so long before they have to switch or overheat, so the pusher becomes the pushed 50% of the time.

Everyone complained about pack racing so now they found something new to complain about.

David Ragan won in a Roush car and we know how crummy they are right?

And lastly, it takes no talent to win at Daytona, just dumb luck according to your post.

Here's a novel idea, if you don't like it don't watch it, and like Mom used to say, "if you can't say anything nice then don't say nothin'!"

1) A late race caution sets up a shootout -- where you line up is that. If you're lined up where you have to push a car with 2 to go, that's it -- you know instantly that the best you can hope for is finishing second in the Daytona 500.

2) I'll take the pack racing over this crap anyday.

3) David Ragan had ONE win in five years in a Roush car. What's that tell you about his "talent"?

4) So people shouldn't be allowed to criticize NASCAR? ####, if everyone prescribed to that theory, Rockingham wouldn't have a Truck date coming up in April, Kyle Busch would've won the Nationwide AND Truck championship last year and Martinsville would've been demolished so NASCAR can race at a new boring superspeedway somewhere in Los Angeles or San Francisco.
