National Opt-Out Day

So, Wed. November 24th is "National Opt-Out Day" at the TSA's security screening checkpoints, per National Opt-Out Day .

The full body scanners are what they suggest you "opt-out" of, knowing this will mean that you will then get a "enhanced pat-down" in lieu of getting your governmentally-mandated dose, however small, of ionizing radiation. Enjoy getting your Government Grope.

This is gonna be a painfull travel day, as it always is on the day before Thanksgiving, but with this in the works, it'll be even more so -- even if only a small percentage of folks "opt-out". Should be interesting to watch from the sidelines, because I'm sure glad that I am NOT flying that day -- commercially at least.

I am NOT guilty until proven innocent. Oh, and TSA is NOT the police--- yet. It is interesting that on the TSA web site they espouse to have a "law enforcement" role -- TSA | Transportation Security Administration | Office of Law Enforcement . Pretty short walk to hear them saying, "May we see your PAPERS, sir....". Safer, more secure.... but at what cost?

If you DO participate in the largest airline travel day of the year, be sure to post how it went! If you can, post real-time on the status of the TSA security (theatre) lines!

I'm going to opt for the pat-down, but request that a hot stewardess perform the procedure, and demand a happy-ending.

I almost wish I was going somewhere so I can pull a 'When Harry met Sally' restaraunt scene in the middle of a crowded airport, and - hey! - maybe offend some muslims while I'm at it

Yeah! And how, exactly, does "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" fit in with the TSA policy of using same-sex screeners to conduct the G-G?

I dunno.

But if I get stuck with a dude feeling me up, all I ask is that he have soft hands.

Non-hairy knuckles would be nice too.

And he needs to call me a pretty little girl.

Don't worry about hairy knuckles, all the hair on his hands will be on the palm.

I can't help but think of the first time I traveled home for Thanksgiving....I was a 19 year old E-2 that spent my last dime on a plane ticket to go home and see my family.......I'm sure there will be alot of them traveling on Wednesday....I really hope they don't miss their flights because a large number of self absorbed douchebags think that the TSA actually wants to see their nasty asses naked..

My poor baby. She will be flying Wednesday.

It will be interesting to find out which one she chooses. :killingme

I see this back-firing on the "opt outers."

If enough opt out, TSA can segregate them and take care of those that want the scanner first. When the opt-outers biatch and moan, TSA can then say, "Well, we were not expecting everyone to opt out - so you will have to wait your turn - all of our agents are busy."

How many will miss their flight to make a point? How many will biatch about missing their flight because they CHOSE to opt out - knowing the ramifications of their actions. How will they know the ramifications?? It becomes obvious as the flight time nears and the opt out line is not moving.

I agree. Why on earth would you want to hold things up on the busiest travel day of the year?? They're only going to delay themselves. Kinda like a hunger strike. :killingme

While I am firmly against the current BS scans and rub jobs, this boycott is beyond stupid.

People are actually bored enough to make a miserable experience worse. It's not degrading enough to get stuck in a 17 inch wide seat between unwashed mouthbreathers who can't lower the armrest without amputating fat rolls, being served 7 peanuts and 4 oz. of warm coke for your six hour flight, finally getting a few seconds of sleep when the bus driver wakes everyone up to tell them that if it was a clear day you would be able to look down and see a corn field.

Nope, flying is already too much fun. Let's add extra delays.

What about children? Do you subject them to the scanner or a pat down? I'd have a real hard time letting my 8 and 11 yr olds fly. Both seem "wrong" when it comes to kids.
