I was just curious, if anyone, has used them, I am sure many have, and what, if any issues, you had with them, what loan types you used, etc. Not trying to be too nosey, just curious! TIA Forum peeps!

We used to be with them, but when we refinanced we realized we would have to rebuy our house with all the same costs as original, so we went to Lenox Financial with absolutely NO closing costs (except taxes if they haven't been paid yet). That was before the mortgage crunch and what a sweet deal. They do 1st time mortgages too and are offering to pay the costs. Very good and above credit rating really helps.
They're a broker so your mortgage will be financed by some other bank. We've refied 3 times with them. Chase is holding our mortgage now. We refied at $299K and that is the amount of the loan,

Anyway- going through NFCU is no different than anyone else, and you can prequalify. If you're going for a VA loan make sure you get your application in with them 1st. If one of you has a service connected disability you don't pay points with the VA loan.

I refinanced with them about a year ago and let me tell you it cost fees big time. I wonder if I contacted them again now and asked for a re-structure if they would charge me. I bet they would!

I used them

I bought a house locally about two years ago. The loan product they provided was adequate. However, their service was less than satisfactory. Numerous unreturned emails and phone calls, made the process more painful than it had to be. Closing agent was not good also. This is my sixth house, and by far the worst mortgage experience.

I kept fighting the refinancing thing for years until I got tired of being sold off each time my loan was repackaged. Several horror stories later, I said to my self, refinance with Navy Federal and get rid of this issue once and for all. I did and I've never been happier. Granted, there were closing costs but, let me assure, I've long since made up for those costs.

I have one. It works fine. I pay them every month and they allow me to continue to live there and fix things.

I used to have a mortgage with them and had no real complaints. They do not (or at least did not) sell their mortgages, which to me was a huge plus.

I have a home equity loan with them. To make a long story short, they kind of screwed me. My title company did not fill out their paperwork properly and allowed Navy Federal to become the primary lein holder on my house. When I tried to refinance they WOULD NOT relinquish their #1 spot on the deed to my lender with whom I purchased the house! It is all a big mess for which I had to get a lawyer for.
Bottom line is that when I needed them to do the "right thing" they absolutely refused and now I have to sue them to get it done.

I'm kind of fed up with Navy Fed at this point. When I've needed their services, they've been the weak link in the chain. Once a few things clear out, I'm closing my accounts with them.

And it doesn't help that for me, there's really only one branch office and they wisely made it so it has FEWER tellers than the tiny one they had in Sans Souci.

Admittedly, their best selling point is, their online banking is very easy to use.

And on their dumb move is not adding deaf user friendly devices at the drive thru. How can a deaf person communicate with a teller on the video? The old fashion drive thru windows at other banks have tellers and a door tray that you can write on piece of paper of what you want done (deposit or withdrawals) to put in the tray.

I don't really like the new NFCU bank for several of reasons....

There's still a tube and a video screen. I don't see how that is any different. It is much safer for the tellers and deaf persons are more than welcome to write their requests and send it to the teller. Many members currently do that, especially when they are purchasing cashiers checks that require the "made payable to" line be spelled correctly.

Plus, there are numerous comment cards available both inside and through the drive-thru. There is also a way to directly email NFCU. Suggestions for improvement are always welcomed and viewed by the branch supervisor.
