Hmmmmmm...Isn't there a plug-in with Divx? Or can you upgrade to a later Windows Media Player?
uh, its a work machine i'm not technically supposed to have admin rights to. i dont want to go upgraded stuff.

Pookieboo!!!
I use InterVideo. I know HP offered it at one point as a download for laptops. I'm not sure if it checks for HP hardware though.

i had an intervideo install of my matrix dvd. that installed. but it still gave me the same error with not having a DVD decoder.

is a decoder like a driver? or a player software?

You'll need administrative rights because a DVD decoder is technically a driver. It'll also have to be imported to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE section of the registry, also requiring administrative rights.
