Need a good home for Porky

I have been a lurker on the forums, but this is my first post. If I don't follow protocol or do something wrong, please bear with me because I'm learning.

I'm writing in the hopes that someone may know of a good home for my 7-8 year old corgi/chihuahua mix named Porky. He's black and white and weighs about 20 pounds. He has all of his shots and has been fixed. He is a loved family member of five years, since we took him in off of the streets of Puerto Rico.

As with a lot of small dogs, he can be a bit snappy when it comes to food/possessions. His is probably a little more pronounced because he was a stray. The issue of why we're looking for another home is because we have two small children.

We first went through this about 2 1/2 years ago when our son was small. Porky bit my son over a dog toy. We then went through the whole gamut of things trying to determine whether we should keep him or not. We worked with a trainer, took all dog toys out of the house, changed our behaviors, keep our son away during feedings, etc. We thought we had everything under control.

We now have a 6 month old and had another episode this morning. At this point I think it is best for Porky to be in a home without children because I do believe his issues can be contained and overall he is a great pet. Our issue is controlling a situation when small children don't understand, and you have a pet that wants to be near you not seperated in the house from you at all times. I know that if we just confined him in an area of the house away from us he would be very stressed.

If you know of a home without children where Porky would make a great fit please let me know. He can be fun, funny and a great companion with a lot of spunk. He'd be great with an owner familiar with small dogs and their eccentricities. I can send you photos if you'd like.

Thanks again for any help you can provide as this is a very difficult decision to make.

I'm sorry to hear that you have to place your dog in a new home. I know how hard that is...I just had to place a dog of mine because of a situation that was beyond my control. It is a very hard decision to make. Just remember that this is the best thing for both your dog and your family. I'm sorry that I don't know of anyone to take Porky, I just wanted to tell you that you're doing the right thing.
