Need A Heat Pump

Got 12 years on my York Heat Pump and afraid its about time to replace but after doing some research as to the most reliable there's no clear winner. In fact it seems most people who are satisfied rarely submit feedback and is only the dissatisfied who most often post reviews. That said, I would like some pos/neg feedback on the current Heat Pumps avaliable in our area. I did note that many problems associated with Heat Pumps are directly linked to the installers expertice during installation. What say you?

I have 2 Trane heat pumps and haven't had a single problem out of either of them. George Hall (Hall's HVAC) did the install and he is always a phone call away if you have any questions.

You nailed it- we just paid $600 to fix a 1.5 yr old York heat pump that more than likely had a problem due to an installer who didn't check his work well enough.

That being said, York seemed reliable. I'd definitely pay extra for the extended warantee to cover labor for more than a year!

I have posted a lot about this in the past and your right to seek advice. The equipment isn't the most important but the installer is. I got a Trane but not because it was a Trane. After interviewing 5 or more contractors I chose one. He had a good price, not the best, but his work ethic and history was what made me choose him.

The house was built in 95 and my desire is to replace only the outside Heat Pump but feed back from others in my social circle claim I may have to replace the entire AC system to accomadate todays Heat Pumps. Is this true?

Technically you should. If you don't any issues you have will not be covered under warranty. If you want the person I used let me know and I can PM them to you. Estimates are free. Also you should ask that a load calc is done. My old system was over sized, thus ran more, and ate more electric. This was on a 5 year old house too.

Lets see.. House I'm in now, built in 99.. heatpump replaced last year..

House my ex and children are in, built 2000, heatpump didn't make it through last summer.

What's the secret?
