Need Advice For Baby Rabbit Just Rescued!

I just found this baby rabbit under my truck this morning all alone. Don't know how it got there. We mixed some evaporated milk, warm water and sugar to feed it, which it seems to like. Anyone have any other suggestions on trying to help it survive?

No advice here, but here is a bump to your thread.
Good luck.

Thanks DoWhat. I just read some stuff on the internet about caring for it and it looks a little tricky. I also sent a PM to Katelin since she rehabs little critters. Hope the little guy makes it.

Jaksprat, good on you for trying to help. The best thing would have been to leave it alone and the Mom would most likely have come back. Of course, something bad may have happened to Mom. Either way, hopefully a rescue person will chime in soon. Baby rabbits are very fragile.

Yeah, I thought about leaving it for Mom to get it too but it seemed so vulnerable where it was. I'm keeping an eye out for the mom but meanwhile need to care for it.

Most wild animals will reject their young after humans have handled them due to the smell. At least thats what my dad used to tell me...

Awww! Today I found 5 dead baby rabbits in my side yard. I think a neighbor cat got a litter. I have no idea where their nest was. I've been sad all day. :frown: :bawl:

Why sad?? Those 5 bunnies could have resulted in your neighborhood being over run with rabbits in 3 years.. Nature has a way of keeping things in balance if we stop interfering.

Of course 5 full grown bunnies probably could have made Hassenpfeffer for 4.

I'm sad when I see any animal dead.

To my neighbors: If you're going to let your cat(s) roam the neighborhood, kindly ask them to kill things IN YOUR YARD.

...na....the local hawk/owl/fox population would keep them in check...

Orphaned Wildlife Rescue at 410-326-0937. My sister took a baby bunny to them.

Ron is closed/full and as of 3 days ago (when I spoke with him on the phone), is not taking any animals.

But keep his number handy...never know when he has space for more babies!

Well, yesterday I did find what looked like a rabbit's nest near the driveway, so I put the baby rabbit in there, hoping his mom would find him later. He seemed quite frisky which was encouraging. This seemed to be the best thing to do according all advice I found. I also called Orphan Wildlife (Ron) and 2 other rehabbers and left messages for all 3, figuring they could advise me further and possibly take him in if his mom didn't show. Ron got back to me later in the day and provided me with yet another rehabber to call, so I went home and looked for the little guy in the nest to verify he's still there before calling the rehabber, and I could not find him anywhere. I can only hope his mom had found him and relocated him. Anyway, thanks to all of you for your advise and help.

You could have given my number instead of a link Catt.
This is a Vet from Texas ..what does he know about rehabbing?
Thank you!
You're a real piece of chit you know that?

Yea what would a vet know about animals? You rank with the elite of the morons. :smack:
