Need Foster Homes for 2 Chained Dogs...

Help "Invisible Dogs"
Now this isn't exactly an easy search so I'll lay it on the line - there are two chained dogs that need help (I'm sure there are many many more).

One is here in St. Mary's County and he's been living on his chain for probably about 6 months. I met him and he's sweet but hyper, I haven't dog tested him yet so my first choice would be to foster in a home w/o other dogs or foster him in a home that has experience keeping dogs separated.

Here's some about him: Chopper - 4 yrs old, not neutered, behind on shots (my group will get all that taken care of), supposedly house broke, kid friendly and has "supposedly" lived with small dogs without a problem.

Fortunately the landlord won't allow an "outside" dog, which is actually in Chopper's best interest. Chopper is the light brindle dog.

The other dog is in Chesapeake Beach (Calvert), the previous owner abandoned him with a family that can barely care for themselves (legally blind and other has lupus). He has been well fed, but has NO protection (dog house), mostly mud in his water dish (I'm sure it's cleaned as they can). His chained is wrapped up with trash. A good samaritan took him home to try to keep him for a few days, unfortunately her neighbors raised a ruckus as he barked (anyway he had to go back to his chain thanks to the neighbors). Now this speaks for his temperment as she raises Yorkies, so for her not to be afraid to take him to her house, speaks volumes. The good samaritan walked him last night and spent time with him, her neighbors yorkie got out and the dog jumped in the truck to get away from the little dog.... Again, this dog isn't neutered either and shots are probably well past due, my group will take care of this guy too.

WE JUST NEED FOSTER HOMES!!!

Ugh, they are both good looking dogs, once again I'll pass the word on.

My Sweetest Boy
I just want to squeeze Chopper! What a face!

Poor dogs.

I adopted a GSD years ago. She was chained 24/7 with no shelter and was only fed cheese crackers. The woman that owned her was somewhat mentally disabled. Annie was the sweetest dog.

This is so timely and sad-yesterday I stopped by to check on a chained dog I befriended 3.5 yr. ago-the dog was gone. I stopped by the house next door (an aunt to the owner) and was told the "owner" moved to Balto. and surrendered the dog to animal control.

This beautiful dog was what I presume to be a Staffordshire Terrier. She spent her entire life on a chain-I never saw the owner, other than feeding/watering her I don't think there was much interaction. The dog never appeared neglected though.
I live 10 miles away from the dog-Sadie, so on my trips to and fro I would leave her bones, put straw out for her in the winter, and fill her water bucket up.

I last saw her Saturday; I called the animal control and was told they had put the dog down. The fact she was “a chained dog and the nature of her breed” they presumed she would not be suitable for adoption. The owner did little to dispel this info. and requested she be euthanized.

I am so shocked, angry and very sad-I have 4 dogs, while I don’t have room for another-IMHO, a rescue organization should have been contacted. In the 3.5 yr. I checked on this wonderful dog not once did she ever show any signs of aggression or negative temperament.

I realize this was not my dog and owners have the right to do whatever they choose, I regret not doing something, what I don’t know.

The aunt gave me this beautiful pix of Sadie, she said she knew nothing about Sadie being put down and sincerely seemed as sadden as I.

What a pretty girl... I'm so sorry. One of the most dangerous dogs is a chained dog, but many of them can be saved.

Fortunately it's getting to the public more and more about not chaining dogs and laws are being passed to help protect these dogs.

Living chained 24x7 is no life.

Thank you for caring!

:bawl: :huggy: That's so sad. Why do people do what they do? I feel like all of the other rescuers out there, if only I could save them all I would! This breaks my heart! As far as fostering, I would be very interested in doing so, but my two male dogs will not have it! I am often asked by my vet, so how many animals do you have now. What they don't seem to get is that I don't keep them all. I take them in, make them better and find them good new homes. I will admit, I have a bunch that end up staying, but that's because I just don't think anyone could love the ones I keep the way I do. Like my overweight skink with no toes. I know I'm rambling, but this just kills me. I'm so sorry. :huggy:

I know how you feel, I've probably kept too many and probably will keep more, like my beautiful Husky with only three feet or the hound mix with cherry eye or my beautiful horse with degenerative arthritis and the list goes on. These are beautiful animals that someone chose not to keep because they were not perfect or they were too old. Wish I could do more. :flowers:

A Message from Your Dog

I wish someone would tell me
What it is that I've done wrong
Why do I have to stay chained up
And left alone so long?

They seemed so glad to have me
When I came here as a pup.
There were so many things we'd do
While I was growing up.

But now the Master "hasn't time."
The Mistress says I shed.
She doesn't want me in the house.
Not even to be fed.

The Children never walk me.
They always say, "Not now."
I wish that I could please them.
Won't someone tell me how?

All I had, you see, was love.
I wish they would explain
Why they said they wanted mine,
And then left it on a chain.

That poem says it all for me!
