Need help putting a video on a disc

Dupontster

Would THIS face lie?
This may be a dumb question but I have a couple of personal videos that I want to put on a DVD disc...I have them on my computer now. I bought some DVD+R discs that the guy at Radio Shack said I needed...When I go to send it to the disc, my computer doesn't recognize the disc...I've never tried this beforeand I may have bought some discs that are not compatable with my computer...Anyone got any input or help for me?

You might need a DVD -(minus)R... Check the specs for your drive...

Dumb arse me isn't sure what he has....I thought you could just pop a DVD disc in and copy from your computer to the disc....Guess I was wrong...In the properties section of my disc drive it says that I have:
(NAME) HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160E
(TYPE) DVD/CD-R

It looks like it will play DVDs and record onto CDrs...

Your model seems like a CD-RW. You can't burn to a DVD. I also found out the hard way that I needed a IEEE 1394 cable to connect to the back of my video card to get high quality digital downloads from video camcorder tapes. The USB cable works, but the data is compressed so badly that it looks pixelated on the TV. So you need a IEEE1394 capable video card and a cable along with a DVD burner in order to copy video from tape. If your file is already in DVD format, you might be able to hook up an external DVD burner to your computer.

Can we open this back up for discussion.

As some of you may know I have purchased a USB 2.0 Buslink DVD + - R W and CD + - R W double layer some crap.

Well I have not been able to burn video to my DVD disks which I bought from DELL when I bought the burner it came up as one of those add-on items that was suggested. Ok, so it should work right. I bought 100 blank CD disc and 50 blank DVD disc.

I can only burn video to CD discs using the DATA CD mode when burning. Of course this does not play in a DVD player except the sound of the video.

My BUSlink is not installed (IMO) on my computer. It comes up as Drive E occasionally but does nothing when I click on Drive E but go to an empty folder.

So with that said Real Player 10 which I use for burning does not always recognize my burner until I play around with the cords and exiting and re-opening the Real Player. It most often says "CD Burner Not Found" .

This I find frustrating because I thought all would be good when I bought the burner but it seems like there is still a lot of problems. On the manual it lists 4 kinds of BUSlink devices and I did the installation for the one I have which is not much installation at all.

In addition it comes with Nero 6 which is a media player but it sucks. I installed ASUS DVD which is the one they told me to install if mine has a DVD burner. This is not helpful at all. I went through the entire step to burn 15 videos and when I pulled the DVD disc out nothing was on it. It told me the burn was successful. :ohwell: So I don't use that program.

What could be some common problems or should I return it? TIA :flowers:

Did you try looking online for an updated driver?

This sounds familiar. Let me think...

I remember ASUS telling me that I should UPGRADE but when I click on the UPGRADE a box pops up and there should be a list of the things I need to upgrade but the box is empty. That is about what I saw.

What kind of driver am I updating? My computer or the burner?

The driver is actually what your computer uses to operate the burner.

I'm not sure by the list exactly which drive you have. Did the drive come with an install disk?

It came with the Nero disc and what appears to just be a blank disc. I (now) think it's UII-DVDRW (USB 2 DVD-RW) Mass Storage (For Win 98SE only, ME, 2K, and XP have built in driver) TKL 1

When you turn the power off on the drive do you here a Windows XP tone. There should be a tone that will inform you the system no longer sees the drive. Vice versa when you power it back on.

The burner doesn't have a power button. I only know what Real Player does in relation to the burner and me tinkering.

When its not acting right and I take cords out of the back and then back in a message comes up on the bottom right menu by the clock and says Unknown external device found and if I click that it opens up and tells me which port the USB is in.

Other than that when I put the cords back in the mouse begins working and sometimes the program switches from CD Burner not found to the 1-2-3 steps to burning and everything's ok. Other times I may exit Real Player and open it again and it may recognize the burner.
