I have Dell computer at home which I gather has a virus. When I turn it on I have to choose a mode 1-4 (yes I have tried all modes) I get a message that states ( in dos) that i am missing a windows\system\vmm32. file. Then it says I need to SCANREG. It won't take any cd I have or let me do anything. Any ideas out there other than a sledge hammer? TIA.

I would do that but I bought the computer from someone else so I guess I figured they won't help since it's 4 yrs old.

Someone actually USES ME!?? YIKES.. Buy another Hard Drive..and load Win2000 or XP on it, you can then access any files on the old hard drive you want.. if you don't care about the files.. get into your BIOS (done prior to accessing the HD) and make sure it's set to boot form CD.. put in your Windows CD and you can TRY a repair, but doubt it will work, probably have to do a new install, format the drive.. and start from scratch.....

Thank you. I was hoping it would be simple and I could fix it. I tried all my drivers, Windows and resource cds and It won't let me in. I am missing a windows file promt. The computer boots up then I get the Windows page than bam to DOS it goes. I will probably have to get someone to look at it that knows a bit more than me. :peace:
