I'd use Clark's Flooring for any flooring installation in my house....carpet, hardwood, tile, etc. They are AWESOME!

Not really of use to this conversation, but as an example of their work: we had some rot to our subfloor, and the surface hardwood had to be carefully "fingered" in to perfectly match the rest of the floor. We were under a really tight timeline, and they did the job perfectly, and at a really decent price.

I have used Griffin's in California (Flooring America) we did most of our house 3 years agao and we finally did the last room this year and they are wonderful. See Jim Flecter or Eddie Hall they have both worked there forever. They get there when promised and the guys do a wonderful job laying the carpet and cleaning up after themselves.
Also they sometimes have a financing deal with no intrest for up to three years, can't beat that if you need to use a payment plan.

I just shopped around for new flooring myself. Griffins has some good deals on carpet..I found a very large remnant of excellent quality that was enough to do two rooms and was half off. They will kill you on the installation, though. For three tiny bedrooms, it was over 500 bucks..and we did all the the takeup ourselves..and already had padding and tack strips down. So I cant imagine the cost if we haden't done that or needed padding. Lowes has good installation prices...(I think right now they are doing $97 whole house) but the carpet is a bit more expensive, and the quality isn't as good. So If you have measurements and do the math either may be better for you..it depends on what is important..if you want really great carpet and budget isn't super tight, get it from Griffins.

Just be careful if you use Lowes they subcontract out the job to all different carpet layers ( I am sure like anywhere some good and some bad) but since they are not actually employees of Lowes I am not sure how they handle it if you do have any problems.
I used Griffin, and would not ever, ever recommend them to anyone! They laid down our carpet and did our wooden floor. All of the seems seperated a year later, even after the 100% guarantee for life. They even sent a specialist over w/ a camera to take pictures of the floor, to evaluate our claim. We did not get resolution, what so ever! Never, ever use them. I still have a very ugly floor, and will need to get it redone sometime in the future, @ my cost!

Really? That's kind of hard to believe. They put my carpet in when my house was new and it lasted 15 years, not to mention that it looked almost new when they removed it to put the floors in.

That's why I'm asking if anyone local has used the local (StMarys County) Lowes. I've checked online for reviews, but a review from someone in Fon Du Lac doesn't do me any good here.

Maybe five or six years ago my mom used Lowe's installers to put in her carpet. The carpeting was nice, but the install job was horrid. The seams didn't line up nicely from room to room, and the grain of the carpet was off in the living room/dining room area, which was VERY noticeable. Also, the padding wasn't appropriately placed, and it bunched in a few areas which made the carpeting appear and feel lumpy.
I'd never use the Lowe's installers, but that's just me.
Having said that, my mom used them quite some time ago, so maybe their install crew is more qualified and competent than when she used them. :shrug:

It has a sunken living room so there's no seam between the living and dining rooms. The only seam would be upstairs between the bedrooms in a short hallway
I used Lowes when I had my upstairs Pergo done, and they were a raging PITA to deal with. The installer was excellent - a subcontractor - but Lowes themselves...not so much.
When I had the downstairs done, I used Griffin and they were fantastic. Slightly more expensive than Lowes but worth it in terms of my stress level.

My mom replaced her hallway carpeting, and the meeting of new carpet to the existing carpeting in the three bedrooms was atrocious. The seams were not done well at all.
And I'm not talking about us being especially picky, or that we were just trying to demand perfection. They weren't even adequate.

Lowe's is coming to my house tonight to do all there measurements and stuff. They should be able to install about 2 weeks after that. I can let you know how it turns out then.

A friend of mine bought a washing machine from Lowes. The subcontractor provided delivery and installation. The subcontractor broke the PVC drain line. Lowes took no responsibility whatsoever.

Lowes carpeting
We purchased carpeting/had installation done through Lowes. It's a high quality berber in several large rooms, hallway and on stairs. They did a good job and were very neat with the pull-up/clean-up.
The Lowes guy came out to do the measuring, install was subbed out. Other than "no hablamos Inglés" they were fine.
