Need recommendation - dog shampoo

My doberman has a skin condition and has a lot of dandruff. She also starts to smell within just two days of bathing. She scratches some but not as much as you would think with the amount of dry skin she has. The vet tells me that it's because she is a blue rather than the typical black and tan. I've tried all kinds of different shampoos. Can anyone recommend a shampoo that might help?

I would poke around the AKC or UKC forums to see what they might suggest. Try something without preservatives, sulfites or foaming agents like Aubrey Organics shampoo for dogs.

You should try Hy-Lyt shampoo. You can only get it at a vet's office but it is great stuff. We had a foster with mange and really itchy flaky skin it did wonders for him. We also use it on our Sphynx.

We feed her Beneful - but she does get an occasional bite from the dinner table.

That could be your problem. Food (corn, and other grains and additives) can cause horrible skin problems. You should look into changing her food to a holistic formula and give her Fish Oil capsules in her food.

By over-bathing her you are drying out her skin..and it becomes a vicious cycle.

Thanks for the advice - I'll pick up some different dog food and some fish oil capsules on my way home tomorrow.
