Hello
I am looking to become a obstetrics sonographer and i am trying to find out more info on it. I am still in high school, and i do think this is something i am interested in doing. I graduate this year, and i would like to scope out some colleges. I was wondering what courses would i need to major in to become successful in this job? Reproductive Physiology? Allied Health? or is there a class specifically for sonography and ultrasound tech that includes all of these? I would like to go talk to a obstetrics sonographer to get the full scoop on their job, salary, what steps/courses they took ect. but maybe there is one on here too that could offer any helpful info, that would be great!
Thanks :howdy:

I googled: obstetrics sonographer.

Found a practitioner with that title.

Looked at their credentials.

Googled the school that they graduated from.

And found: Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

Good luck!

You need a bachelors degree. WVU has a really great sonography program..I know many who have graduated from there..and are doing well. It is NOT just a few classes and a certificate..

And you typically don't JUST do ob sonos. My mom manages a radiology practice and the sonographers do all types of ultrasound. I don't think I've heard of a place that you specialize in ob.

Unless things have changed in MD its 3 years and a certificate, no degree needed.

I'd call the local radiology practices as well as local hospitals and ask to speak with the office managers to see if they had any insight on good schools. No one better to ask an opinion of than someone who works daily with the products of these programs.

I've worked in OB offices where the dr owned his own machine and did their own OB sonos. It's few and far in between, but it does happen. I've even worked with sono techs that took extra schooling to specialize in OB sonos. If that is her dream, it is obtainable. I don't think any offices locally still do this, so it may require relocating.
