Netbook screens

I have a dilemma. Rather, Thing1 does. :ohwell: He has an Acer netbook (received as a Christmas present) which has had a screen accident. He somehow broke the darn thing. Anyway - he has a hard time with electronics in that, invariably, he somehow manages to break them. However, when he breaks something - HE has to replace it - I refuse to pay for damages.

Question: Is there someway a netbook screen can be replaced? Does anyone know of a place or person who would repair one? I know technically it is probably not worth it, but he likes the darn thing & if I can get him a replacement screen then he wouldn't have to save up to buy a whole new computer. He might have to do without one for a while, which is a natural consequence, of course. But he really does like his electronics and it is a big part of his socialization with kids at school, etc. So life is going to be a little rough for awhile around here if we can't get it replaced. :frown:

TIA!

You'd have to give us the EXACT model # to see what a replacement screen would cost. As far as actually replacing it, might be more trouble that it's worth (I have an Acer Netbook 1410 and it's tough to work on).

For the interim, there is probably an RGB port on the side of the netbook. You can hook an external monitor to it.

I don't know if you can replace them or not. I am thinking not but I'm not an expert. We use Chesapeake Computers in Crofton (right on 301 southbound in one of those shopping centers). They came very highly recommended by a good friend and colleague who has been using them for years. Why don't you give them a call and ask them.

It's an Acer Aspire One D225E (an inexpensive model, for obvious reasons.)

Never thought about hooking it up to an external monitor, although we don't have a desktop around the house anymore. Also, that might just be one more thing to worry about him breaking. :cds:

Thanks for the input!

:yay: Thanks for the info - I might call them if nothing closer pans out. I don't get up that way often, and after work is not possible at all that far away.

What's the name of the place that takes old computers and refurbishes them? It's down here on Great Mills Rd, I think. Maybe they might have a screen.

A training school or something like that, located sort of behind Biglots, the take donations from what I understand to do repairs. Could take a little while to get it back.
