I am trying to attach a computer to a wireless printer. The computer is connected to the internet via ethernet and wireless network. The laptop is connected to the wireless network. Now what? I should be able to find if I search for the device under control panel - add device? It is not coming up. Thanks for your input. I am a database administrator but this hardware stuff always gets the best of me.

Ok, I got it connected - BUT it's a scanner/printer and I only see it as a printer. How do I get to use it in scanner mode? It won't let me add it again b/c it's already added. Thanks for any input!

Depending on the brand of printer/scanner you sometimes have to load their propriety application from CD to your PC/laptop in order to access the scan capabilities... I had that problem with my last two HPs... Bigger problem was when I got a new laptop and the 'old' version won't install on Win7 Pro 64 and they've yet to come up with a new version.

This. Look for setup software in the printer packaging or the manufacturer website.

I had a very fussy HP printer, just wouldn't set up right over the wireless. I wound up connecting it via USB, loaded all the drivers and programs for it, then disconnected the USB, reconnected the printer via wireless, change the printer IP setting from DHCP to static, then add a new port on the PC which is the IP address of the printer, change the PC printer properties port setting from the USB port to the new IP port.

HP printer software sucks.

This was it! I did not install the software so it wasn't there. Now I can do it - at least with the usb connected. Trying without it soon...

Thanks for all of your input!
