Apparently, the classical format wasn't appealing. They are playing classic rock 70's and 80's. :larry:

Yeah i heard about that yesterday on Channel 4 just before 7 PM. But i dont like it tho. I wish they still had Z104 on that radio station because i listened to that station everyday when it was still on the air.

The classical format has been taken over by WETA FM 90.9. That new crap on 104 is the same as many other stations in the DC area. A new one surely was not needed.

The capitol city of the most powerful nation in the world definately must have at least one classical music station.

LOL it was kinda hard NOT to listen to Z104, it had the most powerful transmitter around, stations next to it on the dial were always being washed out by it.

Yeah and I am NOT happy about that, I'll not be sending them money this year that's for sure. WETA was much better with the all news format.

Over at the http://www.weta.org/fm/ site they have a blog set up to canvass opinions on the switch, and a lot of folks are *not* happy. Many feel a "bait-and-switch" was done during the last fundraiser, since no mention of the possible format change was made while asking listeners for dollars to support the current (now former) NPR format. Fortunately WAMU is picking up Prairie Home Companion, Car Talk, Morning Edition, etc.

As a WGMS listener I'm happy WETA switched back to classical, although if they want to have close to WGMS' ratings they need to liven things up more; right now, they're fitting the "staid classical station" stereotype to a tee. Hiring many of the WGMS on-air staff would go a long way to correct that, I think. I also hope they pick up some of the more successful things from 'GMS, like the Christmas music format in December.

Yes! The only station my clock radio will get is 104.1. I've had to wake up to classical music for ages now - until yesterday morning. I heard Bon Jovi playing and I was like WTH?

Go Braves!
I loved the old format:ohwell: But I'm also enjoying the new one!

Now where will I find my classical music fix? Because I don't recieve half the radio stations that I'd like too:ohwell:

Damn. I never changed the 104.1 setting on my car radio - and I wanted the old WGMS 103.5 so I could get WTOP FM.

I want HFS back.

:larry: Get XM Radio. Problem solved! Due to the wonderful state of radio around here, we decided to ante up for XM and now we wonder how we survived without it.

Thanks to this thread, I found a new radio station and one that has a very clear signal.

I don't think they should be categorized as classic rock, though. When I listened to it this morning on my way to work, they played a couple of disco songs, one 80's favorite (Greg Kihn Band - haven't heard him in eons) and then some more modern stuff (Matchbox 20, 3 Doors Down, etc.). Sort of an eclectic mix, if you ask me. I would prefer it if they did stick to one genre or format - I guess that's why 100.3 is now all classic rock.

Are they trying to say we're getting old and this is their market now? :lalala:
