My undergrad degree is in psychology....interestingly we talked about this in many of my classes...after researching this here is my theory... Boys and girls ought to be in the same classroom and are definitely able learn together...however.. many years ago it was decided that there was a bias against girls in education, as evidenced by the fact that there were less in universities and they were not performing as well in certain tests...in an effort to "even up" education there were many pieces of legislation passed.. this, after many years, has swung in the other direction and boys are paying for it...and many believe that this "feminization of education" has had farther reaching consequences than education.
Here is a good article that gives a good primer as to what I am talking about
Concerned Women for America - Feminizing the Nation's Boys
this site may be a little biased...but all you have to do is google "the feminization of boys in education" You will get a ton of hits.
here is a funny article about real life stories
How the Schools Shortchange Boys by Gerry Garibaldi, City Journal Summer 2006
I love being able to discuss this..i did many papers on it...interesting topic!
Now I think this is an interesting experiment for a school to do...If there is any difference, I am willing to be it is positive.
