8 years and 6 hours ago the surgery had started to try and get the pancreatic tumor I had developed.
It would go on another 2 1/2 hours due to some structural complications.

As I type, I continue to show no signs of recurrence.

Something felt off, so I got my carcass to the doctor. 7 1/2 weeks later, a Stage IB diagnosis.
Early detection and swift, conventional treatment seems to have effected a cure.

I'm one of only 42% of pancreatic patients with an early diagnosis to make it past 5 years.

:huggy: Brain tumors run in my family and we have lost a few people many years ago and in more recent years a couple have survived their surgery. My Mom has one that is growing so slowly they told her she did not need surgical removal and the risks associated with that, so periodically they rescan her to check size. She has lost her hearing in 1 ear due to the tumor, but is in her 80's now and said loss of hearing in 1 ear at this point is not a big deal.

My Mom has one...
My mom passed on 30 SEP 2020 from a brain tumor, which was a metastasis from a colon tumor that was surgically removed the year before. She was too frail to have chemo or radiation after the surgery.

:huggy: PC is one of the most scary cancers because the rate of survival is so dismal since it usually ISN'T caught early.
My MIL died of pancreatic cancer. She was NEVER sick before. I was with her when she got her diagnosis. It was devastating for my children. They were so close. One of the most awful times ever. Maybe 8 months from diagnosis to her death. My son was holding her hand at her last breath.

I have a second visit on Monday with the hernia specialist for a formal surgical consult.
I had a preliminary with him this immediate past Monday and his colleague, a reconstructive surgeon, yesterday.
Monday, will over the procedure in more detail, will take 2 - 5 hours, and set a date in August.

The hernias developed in the wake of the cancer surgery.
It look like I have part of a basketball in there.

Update: Surgery is scheduled for 9 August, My primary care physician and cardiologist have given the thumbs up. PCP was happy with my vitals, physical exam, weight (down 8#) and lab results. Cardiologist said things look good with my ticker.

Got to the Comfort Inn a few miles from the hospital Tuesday Evening. Got to the hospital about 15 minutes early Wednesday (05:15), good as pre-registration and registration had a discrepancy in my insurance info. Things got reconciled. Lights out at 07:30, into recovery at 11:45.
Both surgeons, the ICU Dr., NPs and nurses said I was doing well over the course of Wednesday PM, all day Thursday and Today. Was released to home about 16:30.

I ache, move very gingery and will have 4 wound drains in place for 2 weeks.
