New Dog Law?

LusbyMom

You're a LOON :)
I thought I heard something awhile back on a new law that prohibited dogs from being in the bed of a truck.

Did this law pass and if so is it in effect already?

A friend came by work today with his dog in the bed of his truck and I mentioned it to him but he had no idea what I was talking about.

I read an article about that awhile back and I believe it did not pass. From a caring and common sense point of view, most of us would support such a law, but I believe the failure was based on hunters and farmers who like to have dogs in their pickup truck beds. If I'm not mistaken a northern Maryland legislator from Frederick sponsored it. You should be able to find it using Google.

I knew a person who always drove with her Golden Retriever in the back of her truck. Until one day, she got into an accident and the dog got his entire tail chopped off from falling out. My friend found the tail underneath her truck but the vets couldn't reattach it. :frown:

I bought a harness/seatbelt thing for ours. Haven't tried it yet. You can use it inside the vehicle or in the bed of a truck. Our lab loves to go for rides. Makes me nervous though to have a 130lb projectile in the vehicle should we need to brake suddenly.

IMO, anyone who cares about their dog would not let it ride loose in the bed on a public road.
