New dog surprise

We adopted a little 5 year old rat terrier mix from the shelter on Saturday. I prefer to adopt. It's less expensive, you're saving an animal's life, and generally the dogs are mixed breed. In my many years of dog ownership, I've found that mixed breeds tend to do better with children and have less health issues.
So we pick out the dog. I went there wanting a male - so naturally we all fell in love with the female. (she played us like a violin.) We made the arrangements and specified vet option 1 and 2.

Surprise 1: They call yesterday and neither vet can get her in for WEEKS. Therefore we go with their suggestion.

Surprise 2: She was scheduled for tomorrow, but they call today to say she's there and to pick her up by 5. :yikes: Good thing we bought all of our dog related items last night.

Surprise 3: There's a problem with the spay surgery. There is an issue with the bladder wall - common to this breed. (Great, I accidentally end up with a pure breed) Time and procedure will cost about $200 more. :yikes: :yikes: I am totally unprepared, but say yes because the other option is for them to close her and I take her home to recover, just to take her to another vet to have it done. - So much for inexpensive.

Pleasant Surprise: The clinic owner calls back and says not to worry about the additional cost right now. We'll work it out.

Moral: Make no plans - they will be changes.

Positives: We'll get our little girl sooner - the kids will be thrilled.

:yay: My kitty is working out very well and he was adopted from the tri-county shelter. Everyone told me that the kitty could be in danger with Milo. As if. :killingme This kitty will jump the dog and scare him half to death. The kitty rules. :yay:

I went into the kitty room. Some of those cats were HUGE. There's one the size of a small lion. She could eat my cat and new do and still have room for dessert. - If I lived alone I'd have gotten her!!!

my wife and I adopted a lab mix from the shelter about three years ago. We went looking for a male, and ended up with a female. We saw her in the cage, took her to the private room and then she peed on me. She claimed us, so we adopted her. everything was fairly fast and I think it was $75 total for adoption and having her fixed.

But she's soooo HUUUUUGE. I swear she'd take up a whole loveseat by herself.

Yep. That's the going rate. I also paid $10 to have her microchipped. Of course, now it'll be more, but I'm sure she's worth it. :yay:

Thanks for the info. Her son was also there for adoption. Talk about feisty!! He's the one we looked at first, but I could tell he'd harass the heck out of the cat. We then spent time with her, and she was a complete sweetheart.

Gemmi-
Your $75 fee covers spaying/neutering and rabies. If you have the vet do extra testing, etc at the same time, I've noticed the price is much lower than a regular vet visit.

I've got two of the little sh!ts (rat terriers), sisters and they are spoiled rotten. They both think they're the queen of the house. I'd post a picture, but I have yet to figure out how. :lmao:
