Thanks, Elle.

That is so much easier to understand than the many articles I have seen in the newspaper.

Railroad

Routinely Derailed
During the first 5 months (151 days) of the provisional period, drivers under the age of eighteen (18), may not carry passengers who are minors (under eighteen), unless they are accompanied by a qualified supervising driver or the passengers are direct family members. Direct family members can be a spouse, daughter, son, stepdaughter, stepson, sister, brother, stepsister, or stepbrother of the provisional license holder, or a relative of the license holder who lives at the same address. Violations may result in a suspension of one’s driving privilege.

I think this is a great idea. Saves me a few arguments with #2 when she gets her license and wants to tote friends around. Sorry, chica - it's the law!

:yeahthat: Kids are always worse in groups. I totally freak thinking about my son and his friends driving around.

Someone told me a few months ago that MD was phasing in a license restriction for new drivers, and that eventually no one under 18 would be permitted to drive. I guess that wasn't true?

I don't know but it's a great idea! My daughter didn't drive until after she was 18 - and almost didn't make it then!

I hope not. Many kids graduate when they're still 17. Can you imagine being a high school graduate who still isn't allowed to drive a car?

Plus, how are kids supposed to go on dates if no one drives?

When I was growing up my dad taught me to drive a standard when I was 12 (we lived on a 20 acre ranch) then I had my permit when I was 14 and license when I was 16. I thought that having a permit at 14 for 2 years was a good thing, I was only allowed to drive with my parents in the car. I can tell a big difference from the drivers here in Oklahoma (get the driver's license at 16) compared to Iowa (permit at 14, had to go through driver's ed through school and got license at 16 with a passing grade via driver's ed).
