New Droid App for bikers and hikers

Thought there might be some interest in this app for those who own a Droid

CRash Detection and Response (CRADAR) is a man-down application that runs on any Android phone.

CRADAR senses when you fall, waits 30-120 seconds (whatever you set it for), and if it doesn't see you move at least 8 feet, sends a text message to one of your contacts telling them you might be hurt. This gives your contact a chance to call you to see if you're ok.

In the text message is a link to Google Maps with your GPS coordinates.

If they don't get an answer, they know exactly where you are, and have the GPS coordinates so other people can find you too.

I see no good coming from this. Yet.

Consider; you lay it down, your phone is buried in your bags or tour pak, you're hopping around, cussing, picking your #### up, don't hear it, certainly not thinking about it and you look over your bike, everything is OK and off you go. Someone is left with an alarm and can't get ahold of you for however long it is until you check your phone. I only check mine when I get where I am going.

I say 'yet' because it does sound like a good idea. Just wondering about any flaws or real world how it would work.

Interesting.

Yep. The other day I did it with my car keys. Car in the garage. Me in the house. Threw them on my dresser and the horn alarm is going off. I didn't hear it from in the house. Here comes my neighbor thinking I'm stuck under the car, hurt or something. I have good neighbors.

Me, I never put my phone anywhere but in my inside jacket pocket when riding. If I go down, I'll probably be checking in with the wife, at a minimum, did back in June when I crashed.

I wanna hear all about it. What happened???

I figure if it's on me in a crash, it's gonna get brokeded. Along with me. :jameo: Mine rides in my tank bag which alternates from being on my tank to in the tour pac. Either way, I can't hear it with a helmet on, engine running.

Bumped it for you, Larry. I will have to research, but I am pretty sure the chest area is pretty safe, as much as anything is, at least. And the Droid is pretty tough. Since the app is free, cant hurt to have it. Who knows, some night coming back from class, it might just help them find me in a ditch off of St Johns Church road:)

If I did a lot of road trips, I would get a SPOT, but I am almost all local.

That was my initial thought......plus the fact there have been more than a few times i've eaten it and been down for more than 2 minutes..

I can see it now, your first thought after going superman over the bars and knocking the wind out of yourself being, "Oh crap, I only have x amount of time before my phone sends a panic message...I better get up."

Are you thinking a dirtbike sort of scenario? If not, I would suggest a more mellow riding style:) This is more of a road bike thing, I would think. Time between motion stopping and alert can be set, longest is five minutes. And, of course, you would brief the person your alert is sent to, I know I would. "If you get the message, give me a call before launching the emergency response".
