New Jersey Apologizes for Slavery

Ubi bene ibi patria
"TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey became the first Northern state to apologize for slavery, as legislators approved a resolution Monday expressing "profound regret" for the state's role in the practice.

The Assembly and the Senate 29-2 both voted overwhelmingly to approve the resolution, which expresses the Legislature's opinion without requiring action by the governor.

"This resolution does nothing more than say New Jersey is sorry about its shameful past," said Assemblyman William Payne, a Democrat who sponsored the measure."

New Jersey taxpayers should wait outside and throw eggs at the members of the Assembly and Senate for waisting precious time and money on such riduculous measures. Are there no issues important to the people of New Jersey say, from within the past 150 years or so, the legislators could be addressing?

We get it. Slavery was bad. I don't see anybody, anwhere, disputing that. Can we please get over it and move on????

Some cannot get over it.

why not?

I can understand still be upset over something that happened in your lifetime, maybe even in your parents or grandparents lifetime, but come on, slavery was abolished almost 200 yrs ago. it's time to move on.

And government time and resources should be wasted on such a small minority. What good is an apology to them, anyway? Do you think they're O.K. with everything now? It's just silly.

Why can't New Jersey focus on real issues, like that smell you encounter when you enter the state

:lmao: A little ironic that they are called the Garden State. Don't smell like any garden I have ever been in...maybe the manure used to fertilize it.

The reason they call it the Garden State is because there's a Rosenbloom on every block............

In My Opinion
an apology is an admission of guilt, and that might just be enough to start a reparations initiative.
