New Jersey Motorsports Park

After 20 years and nearly as many proposals, the first of two and possibly three asphalt race tracks in the New Jersey Motorsports Park will open Saturday. The second will open in August.

"Bring it on. We can't wait. More traffic around here means more money and this is supposed to be a rich crowd," said Tett Robinson, bartender at the Rusti Nail Pub & Grill on Main Street.

In addition to the 2.3-mile Thunderbolt track and the 1.9-mile Lightning raceway, the park will offer racing options for high-performance go-carts, off-road vehicles, motorcycles and sports cars. It also has a swank clubhouse for members, dozens of garages to rent by the day or week, a driving school and the chance to buy $450,000 condominiums in the thick of the noise and exhaust fumes.

Engines to hum soon at Millville raceway

On Saturday, New Jersey Motorsports Park will open its gate to members and offer a sneak peak of the facility and the chance to drive on the racing world's newest road course.

Lots of talk about IndyCar Series leaving Richmond after Saturday night's cluster####. New Jersey Motorsports Park already has dates for Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, ARCA Re/Max Series, SPEED World Challenge GT and the SCCA.

I can't wait until September. :yahoo:

The SPEED GT and Touring races that take place there that weekend will be on TV though.
I'll be at three; the ARCA, SCCA and SPEED World Challenge races. :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

The Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series races at the Thunderbolt race course at the end of the month, SPEED will carry it live.

Finally, sports car racing on the Mid-Atlantic East Coast for the first time since the SCCA moved it's races from Marlboro Motor Raceway to Summit Point leading to the eventual abandonment of the Marlboro Motor Raceway.

I can't wait for the ARCa race. I just hope they put in enough seats for the track to get an IndyCar World Series date. Actually, I'd love to see a NASCAR race there. I don't care what anybody says, the NASCAR road course races are just as good as the short track races, especially when you put Juan Montoya, Smoke, Happy, Boris Said and Wild Thing on the same road course. :killingme

The Spitcup Chase for the Championship needs a road course before it can be seen as credible.

What's traffic going to be like?

Millville: Blame county for NJMP traffic- NJ.com

nj.com said:
The commission on Tuesday also had a message for residents who are apprehensive over the high traffic expected running up to the N.J. Motorsports Park's first official event this weekend -- an invitation-only, $5,000-per-ticket affair, according to Vanaman.

The race track's first public event will take place next weekend.
"The Motorsports park is completely bounded by county roads and the county hasn't done anything for us in Millville to relieve traffic," said Vanaman. "Though we're confident we can handle it, there's going to be some growing pains at first.

"So, if you have any problems with traffic over the weekend because of the park event, don't call us; call the county and tell them to do something for Millville."

Also, Commissioner Jim Parent, head of public works, announced the New Jersey Department of Transportation is set to hold a public information meeting on improvements to the routes 49 and 55 interchange, which has long been considered a traffic hazard.

That interchange looks like a cluster####. Yeah, I would hope they're planning on making road improvements. :pete:

Oh goodie...:bigwhoop:

So they have more practice and qualifying sessions than a NASCAR Sprint Cup event for a 67 lap race. :bigwhoop: And this isn't even being broadcast on SPEED (because SPEED would rather you watch ESPN's coiverage of the BoringAzzCookieCutterTracks:yawn:400 at Kansas on ABC).

ARCAracing.com

At least I'll be going to a full weekend of real racing. SPEED GT SCCA races that weekend as well live on SPEED HD, and ARCA Nation will offer live coverage online as well.
