New laptop

I was a Mac user from the 80's, switched back over to a PC a few years ago. Decided that if I bought a new computer, it would be a Mac again.

I have two DELL laptops and one of them is nearly 8 years old. I've replaced everything in it, just about, and it still runs smooth.

DELL's are pretty good laptops, I just perfer Mac OSX over Windows Vista right now. Vista is still as unstable as a troubled child on crack.`

Now built on a Unix base, far fewer issues, for security and reliability, compatibility. Comes with just about all the software you need to be productive, unless you have very specific apps you want to run. Turn-key out of the box.

But the best reason: Really cool commercials on TV for it. "I'm a Mac"...

Tower = windows/unix/(in a few years or never) vista
Laptop = Mac

Macs are great for editting software (i.e. pictures/voice/video), but a lot of software is deisgned for PCs, and is either not compatable or doesn't work as well with Macs. IMO, towers, which you can easily replace the guts of it, should be windows and unix based. That way every few years you can go out and spend $500 and be right back in the middle of being updated. If you bought a mac...you have to go out and spend triple that for a complete new system.

Laptops are relatively hard to replace part by part (in some cases damn near impossible), so why not get something that will need replacement in a few years that lets you experience something you can't experience with your tower? Unless of course, it is for work and for whatever reason your Mac wouldn't be compatable with some portion of what you do.

Mac or PC?

What to do, What to do???

Working with both of them - it really depends on what you are going to use it for...

For personal use, picture / video / music editing - manipulation the MAC is the best out of the box.

For business use and compatability in different networks - the PC is the easiest to merge into heterogeneous networks.

If you are going to do Web or E-Mail - toss a coin...

Either the Mac or PC can do any job - it just boils down to your preference and comfort of using...

Dell Laptops - that is all we buy... I love them! EXCEPTIONAL support... I have an XPS laptop that blows away most workstations.

If there are any specific applications you need (or want) to run, check to ensure they are made for the MAC or PC.

The Mac's OS is a unix core, with this we are seeing more and more vulnerabilites being reported to us (I work in the IT field for the DoD)... the graphical user interface is polished and easy to use. If you have never used a MAC before, they are easy to pickup.

For the PC Guys - know what Macintosh stands for?

Many Applications Crash If Not The Operating System Hangs ! :lmao:

The PC's are contantly under attack - this is because the sheer mass of them out there and the hackers will attack the majority, just the way it works. Vista is nice, but is a bit of a PIG at first, until it learns how you use your computer - after that (about 2 weeks) it starts to run well. If you go Vista, get as much memory as you can afford... we have found 2 GB to be optimal. - more is better...

Bottom line - do a little research and go play with them at Circuit City or Best Buy... start asking friends and family to see if anyone has one you can mess with overnight... if you can (I am not sure of the prices) rent a MAC or PC and see what you think... it might be a small price to pay before you spend thousands on a laptop you might not be happy with.

I have always been sorely dissappointed with MACs whenever I play with them. People keep clamoring about it being Unix based but there are so many better distros that are ready for linux (dell/hp/lenovo) that I would/have gone with.

I think over the next few years we will see Apple slowly move towards consumer based electronics

To my anonymous karma giver

Do you want to explain your parting shot or are you going to cower like a little pussy?

Explain to me why I'm an "idiot." What is factually incorrect?

Because... Every person that I know that has/had a Mac has nothing but good things to say about them. I can't say that about DELL computers or Windows, and especially not Windows Vista.

Or am I an idiot because you disagree with my opinion, can't argue against it because you're afraid of getting slapped down, and can't come up with any good punchlines, because, I'll tell you what, I've recieved some pretty funny red karma before. :killingme

So, back at you, you flying flaming pussy.

Those that have MACs, Why buy a MAC? I have to hear your reasons...

:yeahthat:
The only trouble I've had from my MAC is connection losses when the batteries in my keyboard and mouse start dying and I don't change them quick enough. Very user friendly, the entire iLife suite is very easy to use and I don't have to buy separate software to do any music/photo or video editing.

Huh? I thought FinalCut Pro HD costs a few thousand dollar$.

Windows has built in video editing. I, typically, use VLC for video editing.

I had a Mac before. Ran really fast for only being 450MHz, and it was capable of running OS 10. I mean, I wouldn't dare put Windows Vista on anything below 1.5 GHz.

And my wireless keyboard goes out all the time, new batteries or not. I just decided to throw it out the window and hook up my Microsoft USB K/M. Problem solved. :yahoo:
