I read somewhere else that they are building 10. I guess I'm old school believing we should have lots of these little combatants running around. Quality is great, but quantity shouldn't be overlooked.

And I'm not a big fan of the 57mm pop gun.

The old FFGs were the Yugos of the fleet. Aiming to get to a 600 ship navy in the 1980s, they knocked out about 50 of those in no time. Some were decommissioned after less than 15 years of useful life. Citing the cost to keep them maintained, they were duct taped together and sold to foreign navies.

I absolutely agree. Escort carriers, etc.

I suspect, however, that one of the huge drawbacks to building "quantity" would be filling out the ships' companies. The cost of doing so with an all-volunteer force is prohibitive. Yet another reason to bring back some form of mandatory national service, I guess.

I work with the guys in Egypt that keep the EN Perry class ships going. And still going they are, too.
