Cool!

SOLOMONS, Md. — There's a new exhibit opening at the Calvert Marine Museum (CMM).

The museum will display a never-before-seen set of teeth from the extinct megalodon shark. The 53 teeth are from one shark and experts estimate the shark would have been close to 50 feet long.

How fortuitous of a story. Just last week, a large, about 4-5", complete perfect specimen of a megalodon tooth was found at Calvert Cliffs State Park red trail beach. The fella was digging near the edge of the wetland area, (the part that drains into the bay when it gets full), which was about 20 feet from the Bay water's edge, digging about 2-3 feet in the sand when he found it. And, as it just so happened, a park person happened to be there to actually witness, while they were chatting, him pulling it out.

Note that as part of the article, they state: "An Important Cautionary Note…The teeth were not found at Calvert Cliffs State Park." This is important for people that may now want to go to the park in search of such teeth, becasue it is extremely extremely rare to find a megalodon tooth there. So extremely rare that this is the first megalodon tooth found there in several decades. There are plenty of other much smaller shark teeth from a variety of species found there all the time, just not megalodon.

Interestingly, the cliffs of Calvert run near the entire length of Calvert County. Each area being different from the others. Some areas of cliffs having massive deposits of fossils, teeth, bones, etc., where other areas might only have seashells and the like. It all depends which area of cliffs one is searching.
