A new study published by Duke University shows that a large number of individuals who identify as LGBT actually end up "switching back" to heterosexual in just a few years' time.


First, the gays, which is a lower number:

A total of 8.6 percent of people who identified as gay and lesbian in the first wave changed their identity to heterosexual by the second wave (in other words, roughly six years later).

My theory for literally decades is that men go gay for one of two reasons. First, either childhood trauma and/or raised by single women - which could also open the door to them becoming hyper-aggressive toward the opposite sex. Second, not being equipped or prepared for rejection by women.

I don't know, I think in some cases, it's DNA. I am 1 of 9 and have a older sister that is gay and looking back thru time, she was always gay. She never had a 'butch' appearance or anything outlandish. None of us went thru any trauma and it wasn't a surprise to any of us siblings that she preferred women.

Reading the article - despite the rather sensational title - I largely agree. A small percentage of gays and lesbians “turn back”. I’ve known of one case - a friend who was traumatized by the sudden death of his bride to be the night before his wedding, in a car crash. He struggled with homosexuality for years following - but it was fear and emotion. He’s happily married and has children.

But as the numbers suggest - he is the exception. A relative who is gay - and was clearly that way from childhood and is middle aged now - once said that he concurs that a portion of gay men and women are that way via trauma.

A woman I knew who is bi said she knew many in the county who are bi - but she said to the very last one, all of them were a little mentally ill and “had something wrong with them”. And that despite claiming bi - they had a much stronger preference for one over the other.

I have no opinion on trans etc except what I read.

My bestie since high school (who no longer speaks to me because I voted for Trump) has an adult son who has always been gay and is now identifying as a woman; and an adult daughter who was always straight and a couple years ago decided she was lesbian. Both of them are good looking kids, highly educated, solid respectable careers, any parent should be proud of them.

I have several female friends who were straight forever, then decided lesbian was the way to go. Again, solid citizens, attractive, intelligent, successful, etc.

My gay male friends have always been gay, but I can see a couple of them maybe going binary. Probably not hooking up with a woman, though, except for a one-off.

Sexuality can be fluid and the boxes we put ourselves in no longer apply. There's a bit of an over-correction going on right now and some acting out, but I think people will eventually settle down. It's the new hip thing with young people to be an alphabet person, not much different than fad fashions or hairstyles or eating Tide pods, so it stands to reason that at some point they'll mature and figure out which way they want to go.

My one and only problem with all of this is when it comes to children. Permanent alterations to the body with regard to minors, especially young children who don't fully understand the consequences and cannot personally consent to it. Subjecting children to highly sexual materials, including some ****ing "drag queen" waving his dick in their face. That should be against the law, and I don't care what the progbots say or how much they howl. It's nothing more than sexual assault, and we used to agree as a community that that wouldn't be allowed.

The adults in the room need to stand firm with that no matter what names the Democrats call us.

I knew quite a few in college that were _______ just to piss off their parents. Knew a guy that was clearly not gay just came out one day, soon as college was over so was his gayness. I went to high school with him, biggest womanizer in the school and is again. Also knew a girl that was really into interracial relationships to piss off her parents, once they accepted it she lost interest and dumped a div 1 basketball player for a redneck from her hometown.
